Stayed for two nights to break out journey to Scotland. Comfortable room and great food and service in the restaurant. Would stay here again

Great stay! Fantastic location for Pennine Cycleway and Pennine Way and 2 minute walk into town. Well geared up for bike storage. Friendly team. My room was spacious, comfy and clean. Good menu for food in the evening. Lovely garden area for eating and relaxing outdoors. Great choice of breakfast and well prepared.

This old hotel has some really nice design with lovely wallpaper etc. The bed was very comfortable and the room ( rm 5) was very large and pleasant. The shower was an old electric one which wasn’t great. Food was well presented and homemade which was good but the price point was fairly high. Breakfast was not included and at £15pp put the overall night up to £160. Too much .

We had seen wonderful reviews on here so decided to book. I would definitely recommend booking as their reputation is very good, There were 6 of us, one had a children’s meal, the rest of us had roasts and they were superb. Really special with decent sized portions. The dauphinoise potatoes and cauliflower cheese really is a game changer, and the parsnips were the best we had ever tasted. We didnt have much room for dessert but wee squeezed in a sticky toffee pudding and apple pie, and they were very good indeed! 100% recommended, very impressed and will definitely come again!

Called into Alston House on our way home from visiting High Force. We had a Sunday Roast, 2 had beef and the other had chicken. I have to say its the nicest sunday roast we have had in a long time. The beef was tender and delicious and loads of it, the veg was cooked to perfection and came hot as was the gravy (just how I like my gravy). The chicken roast was as above and every bit as delicious. We wanted a sweet but we couldn't have eaten another bite. And of course we had 2 lovely girls looking after us who were nothing but attractive. We will definitely be back. Doug Denise and Lisa 20/7/25

an unexpectedly varied and interesting menu delivering first class food, hot, tasty and great flavours. i tried the crab linguini and goats cheese and vegetable lasagne, both were perfect. my room was nice and comfy and the roll top bath and posh toiletries were a treat.

The best Sunday lunch ever !!! Fast friendly staff also very helpful. The food was some of the best value and taste we have ever had . Will be coming back and will be recommending to everyone a must try !

Another great stay at the Alston House hotel. This is the third time that we have stayed here ( Two nights) and as before the hotel was relaxing, cosy and always feels welcoming. The food is also excellent while the surroundings in the restaurant area are tastefully decorated and has a period feel to it, with plenty of comfy sofas if you are just having a drink....... Our room was a good size and the bedding was clean and comfy.... One small suggestion is having a full length mirror placed on the wall in the bedroom, as there is plenty of space to put one. Otherwise, our stay was very comfy and we were made to feel welcome by the staff who were all friendly and helpful..... The garden at the rear is also a lovely place to spend some time when the weather is dry/warm, with some beautiful mature trees and bushes to admire. This is well maintained and looks amazing ...... Overall. if you are looking for a comfy,cosy, clean hotel to spend some time then Alston House will not disappoint ...
