It may not be the fanciest hotel exterior or interior, but it has a really cool vibe. The rooms are modest but comfortable. It’s own brewery and bar with outdoor area is also very nice. A 20-25 min walk to the main area of Amsterdam and central station which puts it in a quiet area where you can actually swim outside! Breakfast was a la carte and very tasteful. If you have lot of time, take the elevator! The slowest in Amsterdam?

At first glance, you think you are in the wrong place:an old naval base. But you quickly realize that this is a unique and delightful guesthouse that backs on to a little grass beach and canal in which many Dutch people are swimming, playing volleyball, etc. It's a fun atmosphere, especially if you are having lunch in their very good restaurant, on the patio. It's less than a mile to the Central Station. The room was tiny, but fine for overnight. I would be cautious about staying there in the summer again, as there is no a/c, a small window, and no screens. (What is it about Europeans and screens? Do they LIKE being bitten by mosquitos?). The small fan was pretty pathetic. Luckily, it wasn't too hot. The people at the front desk were uniformly friendly and helpful, and they also let me into my room hours before check-in time. I had a delicious lunch in the restaurant.

My wife and I spent 2 nights at this lovely hotel. From Schiphol Airport we took a train to Central Station then walked to the Canal and at a self service kiosk purchased a Tram Ticket for line 26 and took it 2 stops. We then walked 15 minutes to the hotel. After checking in we had a wonderful lunch at the hotel restaurant then walked to the main part of the city. The room we had, 212, was basic and comfortable. Inside the bathroom was the toilet and shower. The sink is outside the bathroom so while one of us was showering, the other could shave, brush teeth etc. Hotel has an elevator. The food at breakfast and dinner was really very good. The overall staff is helpful. Enjoyed our stay very much. We choose this hotel because of its location to the cruise port.

Really liked this hotel. The strangest hotel I have stayed in to be honest. Quirky, calm, chilled. Customers and staff all so calm. Very clean, breakfast lovely. Really can’t fault. Nice 20-25 minute walk to the city centre. If you’re bored of hotel chains I suggest this.

Loved this relaxed, friendly and unique hotel just a little way out of the centre of Amsterdam. So many quirky, thoughtful touches. We really enjoyed our stay here. Don’t be put off by the pictures of the 1960s exterior. The retro feel is all part of its charm. The breakfasts were great and the location was good - a 15 minute walk from the central area with lovely views over the water and maritime museum and set alongside a tranquil relaxed green area. We enjoyed local gin and beer from the brewery in the bar and brought games down to play with our tween and teenager in the evening after dinner. A great find!

I really enjoyed my stay at the homeland pension. It is very well located and affordable. It’s about a 20 minute walk from Amsterdam Centraal and there’s easy access by buss or tram. The room was comfortable and simple and I found the staff to be pleasant and helpful. The place is very quirky and i found myself charmed by the place.

stayed for three nights in March with two friends, overall a good experience. Amsterdam is an expensive city as far as accommodation goes, this is mid range and although pretty basic the hotel has a good vibe, and is a relaxing place to head back to after a day/night out, for a last beer or two. There are tea/coffee making facilities in a small kitchen type area on each floor which is a very good idea. Although it is 15/20 minutes out of town it really isn't an issue, and a 22 bus takes you pretty much to the hotel if you don't want to walk, fairly frequent and you can tap in (and out) using your bank card. I had a room overlooking the water and it was entertaining watching people take a cold water swim, if only I't remembered my swimming shorts! I would certainly be happy to return on a future visit.
