I tried to book a cancellable reservation. When I attempted to cancel it shortly after booking (my cousin booked me a bed in his room), the system asked if I’d rather modify it... so I did. Only then was I informed that modifying the booking made it non-cancellable. Classic bait-and-switch move.
I contacted the hostel, directly after the incident, over a month before my stay, clearly stating that I would not be using the accommodation. Despite that, they refused to refund me — not because they couldn’t, but because they wouldn’t. They were fully capable of relisting the bed and recovering the cost. Instead, they chose to keep the money for a service they knowingly would never provide.
They don’t seem to mind profiting off someone who made every effort to cancel responsibly and early. This opportunism reflects very poorly on their ethics and the way they do business... so stay clear if you want to stay at a place where you’re treated with basic respect.
