Hotel Do Caracol

Go stay in town. You will definitely have a better stay in Angra. Their "finest suite" (as the manager stated more than once) had not been properly cleaned in a long while. There was considerable odor from the mold on the walls in the Master bedroom - black, red, and while mold. There was a 5cm dead cockroach, hundreds of dead gnats, and paint chips on the floor and baseboards. There is no beach at this location. There is no gym at this location. The employees use the very small parking facility, and park closest to the door. I had to sweep the bird droppings off the patio myself. The dining employees are nice, but one time we were told we had to pay cash, couldn't charge to the room, and of course the "credit card machine is broken." Our TAP Flight was rescheduled to the following day due to a plane running off the runway in Lisbon. We could not use our pre-paid first night at the hotel, and The Hotel would not issue a refund on the first night . We lost $263 because the hotel said that they could not refund our card because TRIP.com used a virtual credit card to pay for the room. I do not recommend this hotel or booking through TRIP.com, and we will never use either of them again.

Definitely NOT a four star hotel. Very tired and although most of the staff are very pleasant, the management doesn’t seem to have their finger on the pulse. This could be a good hotel with more attention to detail. The bathrooms are old and dirty. The tissue box was filled with 6 tissues per day and the body wash in the shower had been diluted with water! No excuse for bathrooms being dirty! The hotel can’t control the pigeons but it can clean the balconies daily, without having to be asked. The corridors are dark and boring. The condition of the decking outside the bar would give a health and safety inspector a heart attack. The breakfasts are adequate) but very boring. The coffee, however, was delicious! The bar was staffed by one charming young man early evening, then followed by a really miserable chap who didn’t want to be there and certainly didn’t want to serve. The most memorable of the two, unfortunately, was the miserable, rude second man. The reception staff were always very helpful and polite and certainly made everyone feel welcome. I have waited six weeks to write my review as I wanted to make sure that my memories were fair and truthful.

This place was really lovely for our young family. Overall, we were super happy. The location was great, right beside a public swimming pool area so lots of fun watching the kids jump off the peer. There was a bus stop meters for. The front Tran e which was great for getting to the downtown (5 mins) and a fun journey. 30 cents each! The pools were lovely, and you can’t beat the view. Good variety at breakfast, not much change day to day but we were always able to find something. We got one of the loft rooms but there was really zero sound barrier so it was hard to do anything once the kids were in bed. Some updating in the rooms would be good but given you’re an island in the Azores, it was easy to overlook that. Reception was lovely and very helpful. Lots of people spoke English or enough to communicate your needs. But above all, you can’t beat the view. It’s amazing!

Absolutely terrible Hotel. The only thing giving this four stars is that it has a spa, pool, bar, etc. but the quality of the hotel is horrible and my any other standard is not even remotely close to a 4 star hotel. The rooms are filthy dirty and full of mold in the bathroom. The staff is not friendly at all, they were shouting on the phone when I arrived. The pool is decrepit and falling apart, and we saw cockroaches in the breakfast area. They ration the Kleenex and towels so be forewarned. All in all not a pleasant experience at the hotel which contributed to a less than pleasant experience on the island. I do not recommend this place at all.

We left after one night to stay in the Zenite in downtown Angra. First of all, let me say the staff were very nice and professional. Now, about the room(s).. We checked in and went to our room. Really strong chemical smell. Very off putting. The toilet was running. We called the front desk and they sent a technician who fixed it. We asked for another room. Another room was provide to us. It still had a faint chemical smell but was tolerable. The sink and shower were clogged. Front desk sent another technician to the room who fixed it. This hotel is in need of a total re-do. Kind of a party hotel because of the swimming areas. Many young people.

Decent size room with large balcony overlooking the bay. So nice to have a bath instead of just a shower. Safe and fridge but no tea/coffee/water. There is nowhere nearby to eat except a Burger King at a petrol station. Rooms were cleaned late, sometimes after 4pm

This is NOT a 4 star hotel. The room smelled of chemicals or insecticide and was making me physically sick - I still can’t get the smell out of my head. The breakfast uses machines for coffee and orange flavoured drink. Fruit was from a can. The parking garage is extremely difficult to access and much too tight an entry. Rooms are run down and not enough lighting. Stains on carpet. The shower in the room was broken and didn't hold properly. But the big strike for me besides the horrible smell is the walls are paper thin and you can hear loudly noise from the next room which will disturb your sleep. I couldn’t sleep because the noise from the adjacent room. Even just regular level talking can be heard. The outdoor pool was empty and exterior in maintenance. The lobby was constantly filled with mass tour busses checking in. Balconies are filthy and unusable. The view is nice but you are also walking 30 min to get into the heart of the town for sightseeing and dining. Don’t let the pictures fool you - don’t recommend.

I need to give a huge Thanks to Sebastian, Carla, Anna at the hotel! They made our stay here easy, comfortable and enjoyable! Sebastian provided us with excellent recommendations ..for example Rocha Restaurant..delicious and great local atmosphere overlooking the sea. We had a memorable day exploring the island due to Sebastian’s recommendations! The location is great as it’s sits overlooking the sea and close distance to the picturesque city.. I can’t say enough about the people.. so kind, friendly and welcoming.. Thank you! Yes, we would come again!
