Davie School Inn

One of the coolest and unique places we’ve stayed. It’s clean, quiet and the decor is perfect for this converted school. It felt like a slumber party in a classroom! Lyle was super friendly and inviting. We were surprised by the air jet tub- perfect after a day of travel!

I searched for a B&B in the heart of the Shawnee National Forest, wine country, and Southern Illinois attractions. The Davie School Inn was the first to pop up and it looked wonderful online. So I grabbed a reservation. The in-person experience went beyond my expectations. Lyle, the owner, immediately took me on a sentimental tour of the building, a converted elementary school, complete with cute class pictures and many other memorabilia. The building architecture is beautifully perserved and Lyle's English background shows in the landscaping full of flowers. Ask him about the fantastic children's books he has written about items customers left behind. One of the perks of my room was a Tempur-Pedic mattress, which I had always wanted to try. I had the best sleep of my life and immediately ordered one onlinel! The room was nice and cool during a heat wave. Tammy and Lyle's breakfast was one of the best I've ever had at a B&B - the thick and crispy bacon especially. Anna, IL is a charming old railroad town and the area is a great getaway from city living. From there, you can take a day trip along the Ohio River. See the Superman statue in Metropolis. Be sure to visit the confluence of the Ohio and Mississippi - quite breathtaking.

Great to see an old building repurposed and executed so well. The suites are spacious and unique. Love the chalkboard messages and the artifacts throughout the room. Best bed ever with the most comfortable pillows. Total privacy but easy to text owners if you need anything. You'll want to be an early riser on the park side of the inn because the sun comes in the top windows. We are so no issue. The creme de la creme is breakfast which is brought to your room at tye time you chose. And what a breakfast it is! Thick apple baked French toast, ham, scrambled eggs with cheese, fruit, juice and Kuerig coffee in room. The second day was bacon, eggs, extraordinary apple crisp, sliced strawberries and juice. We delayed leaving the second day just to savor the breakfast! We will definitely be back when we are in Anna!

Outstanding place to stay and relax. Tammy & Lyle were excellent hosts. They gave me the history of the area and the inn and the breakfast was great. The room was very comfortable and they were so warm and inviting. I highly recommend staying here and cannot wait to come back.

We had an amazing stay at the Davie School Inn during our trip to Shawnee National Forest—it was the perfect spot for our family! I like the spacious room with three beds (a King, a Queen, and a Twin), giving everyone their own comfortable space to sleep. The hot breakfast was a highlight—fresh, delicious, different every day, and the ideal way to kick off our days of hiking. The inn’s unique and Lyle is friendly, supportive , and we’d absolutely stay here again on our next visit to Anna!

Our 20-year old son's vehicle - while on a 20-hour cross country trip - broke down nearby and was towed to a local mechanic in Anna, IL. After looking at options online, he chose this spot - and we are glad he did. Lyle treated him like he was his own son and went above and beyond to make sure he was safe and comfortable while his car was getting repaired (took two days), even giving him a ride when he wasn't too busy. Our son raved regarding the customer service and loved the breakfast. Highly recommend you spend the little extra to stay here. It's well worth it.
