Uga Ulagalla - Anuradhapura

We started our honeymoon at the fantastic Uga Ulagalla hotel for three nights. The hotel is set in an amazing forest setting with lots of wildlife to enjoy. The food we had was incredible with great options if you are gluten free. In particular we had a magical dinner at the Kamatha restaurant, set in the middle of the rice paddies. Where chef Diluka prepared a awesome 25 dish feast. The staff were outstanding and really made our stay feel special. They were always looking for ways to make our stay more enjoyable. We ended our stay with receiving some lovely gifts from the staff for our honeymoon. We can't recommend Uga Ulagalla enough

The property itself is absolutely stunning: the natural setting is beautiful, full of wildlife, and incredibly peaceful. The villas are spacious, tastefully decorated, and offer a lot of privacy thanks to how spread out they are. It really is a gorgeous place. Unfortunately, the experience didn’t match the setting. Our first villa was completely infested with moths, so we had to change rooms. The second villa had serious electricity issues, and the AC kept turning off throughout the night … we had to wake up every 30 minutes to reboot it, which was exhausting, especially after a long day of travel and being pregnant. We moved a third time, and while the villa was lovely, the living room AC has never worked despite asking several times. It’s still boiling hot and unusable. Overall, while the hotel is beautiful, the recurring issues and lack of basic maintenance make it fall far short of a five-star standard and the peace of mind that is meant to come with it.

Stunning villa with very comfortable bed that are a short buggy ride (driven by Kusal!) Pool is fantastic. Staff are very friendly, helpful and efficient. Food was excellent and we enjoyed the Kamatha experience although I would suggest less food and the dried fish was not to our taste. Only drawback is it is an oasis so sites are not near but they will organise anything for you.

The hotel exceeded our expectations and having our dinner during our first night at their restaurant, Kamatha - we had the most authentic Sri Lankan experience not just with the dishes but the tradition & culture behind it thanks to Chef Deluca, manel, and theekshana who gave us the warmest welcome and a lot of fun facts! We also had 25 dishes to try, we can’t recommend this enough!!

Uga Ulagalla, is by far one of the best if not the best property I have been to. It has a perfect balance of all modern luxury combined with old charm of a Sri Lankan Walluwa. The property is immaculately maintained and the food is divine. However, their absolute best strength and charm lies in their staff! From Asanka the manager to Ruwan at the front office , to Sidath , Ravi and Ayesha at the restaurant. They were the most hospitable professional and absolutely amazing staff we came across. Even Vehan and Nipun the bell boys we met, everyone was always with a genuine Sri Lankan smile and always ready make our stay even more comfortable if that was even possible! The staff at this property is an absolute treasure. Thank you, Uga Ullagalla.
