Avisford Park Hotel

Room was great mattress was very hard all in all very good we used the restaurant but was not great but staff were very friendly and very nice.

Went as a couple for 1 night. Upgraded to a superior room upon discovering the room which was not cleaned. Breakfast was good, outdoor pool, sauna and a bar/restaurant area for a few drinks in the evening Overall a good stay, would recommend

No food available in the evening and no restaurants open nearby

Was so looking forward to a short break at the Avisford Park Hotel after a rather stressful time health wise. Seemed ideal for my husband who has mobility and other issues - a room with twin beds, wet room shower and on the ground floor. Anyway, to make absolutely sure I spoke to the hotel on three occasions to confirm all was suitable explaining that my husband had mobility issues. After checking in and setting off up the corridor it soon became apparent that the room was not on the ground floor but what can only be described as “lower ground” and we were presented with a long flight of stairs and then a very, very long walk through another corridor. (Please see photo of stairs and the corridor from the outside of the building}. Totally unsuitable for someone with mobility issues. Would never have booked this if I had been told the correct information. Back to Reception to find another room but none was available so the only option we had was to drive to the room and then have to keep driving back and forth for breakfast etc. Can’t imagine why a room for disabled people would be located where it its impossible to walk to the dining room! Could hardly be further away. We were offered a complimentary meal but this really did not compensate for the three night stay which now was neither relaxing or practical. Generally the hotel is rather shabby and in need of refurbishment and lacks any niceties and touches that make the experience pleasant and memorable - its all very basic with no flowers, candles or table lamps on the dining tables, no shampoo or conditioner in the bathroom, just a soap dispenser on the wall just like being in a public WC. Food again was very basic and unimaginative. Breakfast disappointing (except the poached eggs) with very dry, hard bacon, dry scrambled eggs and tasteless coffee from the self service machine. No fresh coffee in a cafetière. My husband had his cornflakes in a soup bowl with a soup spoon! On our last night we were in the room watching TV at about 8.30 pm when some very loud “music” started. Got louder and louder with constant boom, boom, boom. Had to turn TV off as couldn’t hear it anymore. Was so loud that the pictures on the wall vibrated. No chance of getting to sleep until it stopped just before midnight. Apparently a Proms Party but total disregard for the nearby guests at the hotel. Staff were mostly friendly and helpful but most of the issues were not within their control. This hotel could be so much better and certainly is not worthy of 4 star. It is an impressive building with lovely grounds but does not live up to its publicity or overall catering. So, did we enjoy our stay at the Avisford Park Hotel? I am afraid not. A huge disappointment.

This place is a hidden little gem. Yes it needs work doing within the hotel, but that looks as though it is underway and will take time. It is a huge huge building to maintain and under the circumstances I still had a fabulous stay. The buffet breakfast was one of the best I’ve had in a long time. We were lucky enough to have an upgrade for our anniversary into a suite which was bigger than my flat at home! Staff were very helpful and pro active. Would definitely return

Just had lovely short break to celebrate wife's birthday. We had a lovely welcome from the front desk staff. Looks like the hotel is getting a face lift currently. Lovely little indoors pool with sauna and steam room, there is a gym and massage area too.Evening meal was very good, breakfast was good too. All the staff we're great.

Our friends took us here for afternoon tea. They haven’t been before, but I had an insight to the hotel from a driving course the week before. On arrival there seemed a shortage of staff as we had to go back to reception to try and find someone from the restaurant for us. Decor is very old throughout and in a poor state. Despite have few diners in a large restaurant it was decided to sit us by a bucket collecting the rain from a hole in the roof, not sure why? Sandwiches for afternoon tea seemed quite basic and scones were hard. Tea and wine were fine. Had I booked this myself I would have cancelled after seeing the hotel the week before, but we were guests of our friends. Hopefully now the new by pass isn’t being built some investment will go into the place to make it decent again. If not if you want afternoon tea with bottomless rain water, this is your place.

We booked the gorgeous Terrace room for my son's 21st birthday dinner for family. Katie made the booking process so easy, making sure everything was planned to the final detail, including ordering off the menu desserts for us. On the night, the food was lovely and we never waited too long for the next course and never had an empty glass. The whole team, especially Phoebe, Ria and Paige couldn't do enough for us, making sure we had everything we needed and went above and beyond to ensure my son enjoyed his night. Thank you so much, we'll be back.

First of all , we had an issue with our room which wasn’t the hotels fault at all. It was in fact the sub contractor workers who were there at the time. It resulted in us not even staying the night and travelling back 3 hours home the same evening. When I spoke to reception about the problem the manager was helpful and explained we would get a full refund. I later on spoke to Georgios Lympitakis through email and let me tell you , he was a fantastic manager and offered us a free stay at their sister hotel (closer to home) and a full refund still applied. Very apologetic and sorted things out for us straight away. It was unfortunate about the stay in general but I cannot fault the staff especially Georgios Lympitakis who was an absolute delight. Kudos to you sir.
