Ilboru Safari Lodge

Cannot say enough about this lodge, the people, the accommodations, the lush green property, the FOOD, the fact that they are also humanitarians and help support the local school, local Maasai women and local women artisans in their gift shops. I could go on and on. Highly recommend. This is Africa at its best. They went above and beyond to make my family feel like their family, and paid special attention to my 84 year old mother when the rest of us were out on safari. Just amazing. Thank you Ilboro Safari Lodge!!

The Ilboru Safari Lodge exceeded our expectations. Our room was in one of the Maasai boma style cabins, and was clean and well maintained. It did not have a coffee pot or in-room safe. The grounds are a beautiful, mature tropical forest that is meticulously landscaped and full of many plant and bird species. We spent 2 nights and enjoyed excellent breakfasts, lunches and dinners. The swimming pool is the best in Arusha - large, deep, and clear. Artists and musicians are often present. Around 7:30 AM daily fresh coffee beans grown at the MaaSae Girls Lutheran Secondary School are roasted on the rear patio and will be your fresh coffee the next day. The staff is excellent - kind, very polite, and attentive to all your needs.

The lodge is now under a new management and the renovated rooms and common areas are excellent. It has a huge swimming pool and lots of garden with flowers, plants, birds and even the vervet monkeys. The staff go out of their way to make you comfortable and service is great too. Highly recommended if you are heading out on a safari or need some rest after a Kilimanjaro climb!

After a week sleeping in tents, I realize that any hotel stay might feel luxurious, but Ilboru absolutely exceeded all expectations by far! The freshly renovated lodge has been thoughtfully appointed to create a comfortable and welcoming environment to relax and recover. Rooms were impeccably clean with quality attention to the elements that can really make or break a hotel stay: comfortable beds, quiet rooms, and robust shower facilities :) Beyond the tangible details, staff was extremely professional while maintaining a genuine sense of personal hospitality. The perfect balance! Restaurant offered a nice variety of options for breakfast and dinner with solid execution of both. Wish the weather had cooperated so that I could review the expansive pool (very inviting!), but I can say the gardens were beautifully maintained and I look forward to a return visit someday. A big thumbs up!

This was an excellent place to stay before we headed out for our safari. The rooms were clean and the garden was lovely. The staff were very friendly. I arranged a private city tour where we walked around the town, to the market, and to the Sanna Center where handicapped people are trained in weaving, glassblowing, jewelry making etc. It was great. My husband and son rented bicycles in town and toured around. It was a great stay.

Started our 7 day safari from this hotel. We weren't picked up for safari until over 24 hours after arriving. The rooms are basic. No tea or coffee making facilities. You had to buy hot drinks from the bar. The rooms we hot with no fan supplied. Very uncomfortable temperature. The bed was quite comfortable though. We had to buy a meal on the first night. There was little choice, & we didn't feel safe going out into town. The road outside was more like an off road obstacle course. Ended up paying out €100 on food & drink.
