The Bards Inn, BW Signature Collection by Best Western

The hotel is set up very open and not all cramped together it actually spans across 4 buildings in one area of town. The front desk guy was very helpful and got me checked in to my room way early at about 9am and the room was phenomenal!! Definitely worth it to get the suite with the jacuzzi and balcony. Probably the nicest executive suite I have stayed in and I will be extending my stay and returning another time too. On my top 10 list of best hotels and service

Absolutely tiny room. Creaky, old building. I guess Elizabethan themed? Built in the 1800s? Kind of bizarre to be honest. Super old fashioned decor apart from the tv which did not work the entire time, however. Great location near downtown and big breakfast room, otherwise weirdly small and cramped and taking the theme too far. Not sure you have many other options that take pets though.

One of the worst beds I've ever slept in. Great location but just a motel with faux-Tudor doors. If you're coming for the Shakespeare festival, it makes sense to spend your money on good seats and save on accommodations. This has little to recommend it other than location and free parking. Know that the motel is spread over a few properties; I stayed in the main one. Convenient to the breakfast room (not notable breakfast, but included.) Some buildings are across streets.

The room was clean, but dark interior, pillows were the worst! Breakfast very disappointing: cereals offered were loaded with sugar (Fruit Loops, Frsoted Flakes), no bran or granola. Luckily, there were cheerios. Fruit selection was some meagerly sliced oranges, a banana or two... Breakfast room was well maintained, sunThiny and light; hostess worked diligently to keep items refilled. The exterior patio areas and flower beds were non-existent! Bare dirt and weeds that needed to be weed-whacked. This property has an outstanding location, relative to the Shakespear theaters. Had the impression the management operating on a "shoe-string" and cutting corners. All interaction with staff members was pleasant!!

We travel to Ashland several times a year. We previously stayed at a different hotel, but it was getting signs of too much deferred maintenance so with good ratings via this site and others we switched to The Bard. We were very disappointed. We had booked a Deluxe Pet Friendly room. The room is not in the main building which would have been fine, but was in a separate building with several issues. Lots of street noise as it is on the main road through town, and also, the internet was terrible. Which would have been marginally ok - we just used our phones as hotspots - except when i went to check out the desk person said “did you call the front desk. Usually if you call they reboot the router and then it works better.” So, if you know your WiFi in the outer building doesn’t work well, why don’t you fix it? I actually asked if he would tell anyone about our concern. Oh, yes, he said. I doubt he told anyone, thinking, “she is leaving it will be the next person’s problems.” So we will keep looking for a better pet friendly hotel walking distance to downtown Ashland. The Bard will not get any of our repeat business..

If you are going to the Shakespeare Festival, this is a perfect location. It is easily walkable to downtown Ashland and the Festival. Great restaurants and shops only a few minutes' walk away. Everyone I encountered at the front desk was friendly and helpful. There are three separate buildings, and I do think there is a difference. We stayed in Verona(?), which had its own covered parking lot. It seemed more secure than the main building, if that is a concern. (The main building rooms open up to the parking lot, and have easier access, but the building we were in had a keyed entry and rooms opened into a secured hallway.) The room was very clean and had all the basics. There is a large dining area for the free breakfast. Nothing fancy, but a wide variety of items. I have an EV, and didn't need to charge, but it was nice to know there is EV charging in the main parking lot.

There are actually 3 parts of this hotel and we didn't land in the one we wanted...the Sonnet...which looks to be the newer of the 3. Upon asking about that the attendant said that its usually best to call them to make the reservation so they can make sure you get the room and property you want (see pic for the map showing all three properties). Apparently they even have two-room corner suites if that is something you need. We landed in the London section and the rooms are older and a little tired. People walk by your window. There is hardly any bathroom countertop which was cluttered with the phone and coffee maker (which we luckily moved under the counter). We also had to scrounge through the main kitchen with the attendant to find a couple of wineglasses which we had to return to the front desk the next morning (?). Pros: It is walking distance to downtown (we enjoyed eating at Brickroom) and Lithia Park (which we walked after grabbing a coffee at Mix Bakery the next morning before heading out for the day). Walking along the creek, and seeing the new Japanese Garden there is a must do....such a beautiful and peaceful way to start the day and get some steps in before heading out to wine taste. Take a picture of the map at the entrance to the park so you can find your way around a little easier. Signage for the Japanese Garden wasn't great and it took us a minute to realize it is straight past the fountain off the sidewalk.

Stayed three times. Staff is super friendly. Dog friendly. Some rooms smell, ask for non-pet rooms if you care about that. Free breakfast is fine. Rooms across street seem a big nicer than the rooms located on lobby side. Rooms near lobby are motel style, so if you want to pull up right in front of your room these are perfect. Two story, so ask for ground floor if needed. Always pleasant front desk staff. Not fancy but fine for one night.
