Great stay
Room was nice and comfy. hallways clean, good breakfast. Indoor pool was fantastic!
Hot tub was perfect temperature. Will come back and stay just for that

Replace the management. This hotel is under renovation and a lot of the amenities like the pool, hot tub, fitness & business center and meeting rooms are all closed. But they don’t tell you that upfront. Everyone from the front desk to the general manager lies and they apparently overbook rooms worse than airlines. I booked a handicapped room weeks in advance, and upon check in it was not available. The front desk told me that the regular rooms WERE their handicapped rooms and tried to tell me that it met ADA standards. They then said that it was because of construction and that they were allowed to substitute and rent regular rooms as handicapped ones. I informed them that that wasn’t true and they told me to go find somewhere else to stay. It was too late for that as all of the hotel rooms in Athens Texas were booked up already. The GM on the following Monday tried using the same excuses as to why they couldn’t accommodate me. I’ve been in a wheelchair for years and know the expectations. These people don’t have a clue about accessibility standards.

Have to review this hotel in the context that you are staying in Athens, TX which has one WalMart and a population of about 12,000. For a rural area this hotel is adequate. It is VERY OUTDATED. There is that old musky 80’s smell in the rooms and corridors. The walls are thin so you can hear your loud neighbors ALL OF THE TIME. Breakfast options are sad too. I have seen more options available at other HIEs. There is a dead plant that is in the dining area that also looks oh so sad cause it is DEAD. Seriously- who leaves a DEAD plant in a public area? It’s like NOBODY CARES!!!! There is old furniture in the parking lot. Why???? Overall the general feeling of this hotel and town screams “RURAL AMERICA!” The employees look sad except for the nice young lady that checked me in at 10pm. I have stayed at several HIE hotels and this is the most pitiful one…. But again, this is Athens. Next time if I am in the area I will opt for an Airbnb option or look for a B&B nearby. I suggest if your budget allows skip this place and find somewhere else to stay.

Vanity faucet handle broken, fell in sink when used, toiled not handicap, no grab bar on back wall of shower, no anti skid on tub bottom, I noticed several locks on doors broken. I informed clerk that our guest never showed up last night & asked for credit on card, she said I should get $30.00 credit, but did not. Property in poor condition & need alot of updating.

Hello everyone. Holiday Inn Express Athens and their employees are the most unprofessional people I have ever seen. My husband booked months ago. He shows up last night and they checked him into a room. Only for him to get to the assigned room and it is out of order. He went back downstairs to get a new room and was told that every room in the hotel was booked. So he is away from home and hotels are limited in this area. They did not provide any resolution, so he had to locate a hotel by driving through town. Alexis at the front desk told him that it was refunded, I contacted Guest services and it was not refunded and she had to wait until her General Manager Samantha came in. When I spoke to Alexis she said that she did not know Samantha’s boss’s name, that she had only been there 2 weeks, she did not receive orientation and that she was alone in the hotel. I created a ticket and was assured that Samantha would be calling. Well she hasn’t SHOCKER! So I guess not only does the hotel need additional training but make sure you call and check to make sure a room is available. I will provide an update IF they call but I wouldn’t hold your breath! Share away

This hotel is in need of a remodel. The car port at the front corner is literally caving in, caution tape all around it. Felt unsafe. Everything overall was pretty clean, but the carpets need a good cleaning. We stayed in two rooms. The first room smelled really bad.. The shower drain wouldn’t drain until my husband used his hand to try and plunge it, then it worked. The microwave was broken, the glass plate didn’t spin. Everything feels very well used and outdated. Blankets looked like they were falling apart on the edges. The second room was better. The building just really needs remodeling. Breakfast was good.
