Was in the area and decided to have a lunch out. This was my second visit to the Game Cock. We had not booked and we were able to get a nice table in the restaurant. Friendly service, not rushed. Good selection of food on the menu and a good daily specials menu. The game terrine was very enjoyable and nice bread served with it. The soup was also enjoyed. I had gammon steak for main which was lovely and a huge portion of chips. A tip would be try the gammon before putting any salt on your meal as the gammon was salty and more salt might make it too salty. Pork and apple burger was enjoyed by one of our party and also the baked camembert was also enjoyed. Asked if the chips could be substituted for sweet potato fries but if not possible were happy for chips. We ended up with chips and the sweet potato fries. When we mentioned this the waiter said sorry, we will take this off the bill, which they did when we received the bill. Mum had the bakewell tart with custard and enjoyed every mouthful We bought cakes to takeaway from the bakery at the entrance which were very enjoyable with a cup of tea. Good food, nice atmosphere and would return

Great lunch! Lovely warm welcome when we arrived. Super service from Annabel. We all chose different starters and mains. All were very happy - nicely presented, tasty and plentiful portions (I couldn't eat all mine!). We then bought homemade bread, croissant and beautiful tarts from the bakery - for tomorrow of course! It was our first visit, but we will definitely return, and would highly recommend. Thank you for a lovely lunch!

We had booked the weekend in Austwick for walks in the Yorkshire Dales. It’s a beautiful part of the world. We had pre-booked dinner at the Gamecock Inn for the Friday night with our friends and 2 dogs. What a lovely experience we had. A real home feel, wonderful staff and awesome food. We enjoyed it that much we booked again for the Saturday evening. A cooler evening and the log fires roaring away. Over the 2 meals we had tried 8 different mains and 5 puddings with all getting five stars. Restaurant food at its best. Make sure you book ahead so you are not disappointed.

What a little gem of a place this is. We called in for lunch only to find that a large group of touring cyclists had just come in and were waiting to be served food. The very friendly bar manager said that he would check if we could be served as they were almost full and this was a Thursday lunchtime. We were told that there wasn't a problem and we were seated and a short time later our order was taken. Considering how many people were there our food came out in super quick time. We both ordered baguettes which came with a huge salad, beetroot falafel and a portion of chips. Quite frankly one portion would have been enough to feed both of us it was that big. Really good value for money, total cost including drinks was £35.

Came for food.... OMG delicious, had the french duo. Service was fantastic, gent behind the bar was very attentive and friendly even with many wanting to order! Beer garden out back is a hidden gem. All in all amazing experience, thank you so much

The most fantastic meal, the service was brilliant and the food was absolutely to die for, would 100% come back and 100% recommend. We did have to book but I am very glad that we did, the desserts were excellent, there was a choice of sticky toffee pudding, some french patisseries, tarts, ice creams and crème brûlée. If you’re staying in the area, you must come here! Fantastic value for money too :)

Great atmosphere in this village pub, nice selection of ales and a perfectly cooked sirloin steak, all four of us had a steak with all the trimmings and a lovely dressed side salad, one of the tastiest steaks I’ve ever had, very attentive staff and reasonably priced. You’ll need to book as the pub gets very busy

This was the second place we visited yesterday and was in stark contrast to the first. The staff and the food and beer were all excellent. If we’re in the area again I’d love to try something different from the menu.

We have just stayed at the Game Cock Inn, we will definitely be back when this way again. The owners and staff were lovely and so helpful. The room we stayed in was a small double and it was perfect, had a comfy nights sleep and a great shower in the morning. Dinner and breakfast were excellent. Can't fault this charming little place.
