Thotalagala

Situated in the tea country of Sri Lanka, you drive down a small road with local houses and then come to the beautifully landscaped Thotalaga, which is perched on a hill with a perfect unobstructed view. The team at Thotalaga have written the book on anticipatory service! It was raining for our tour of the tea factory - rain jackets, umbrellas and waters were awaiting us. It was chilly and a chance of rain to see the sunrise at Lipton’s seat - this time, we were also sent with blankets and served hot coffee and tea before our journey (properly, sitting down w the good china). And meals were so well done! After much Sri Lankan food it was nice to have a steak option for dinner, and their beef tenderloin did not disappoint. With just 7 rooms, the hotel is cozy. We left feeling well taken care of; individually looked after. They have done a wonderful job keeping a delightful staff who truly seek to serve. Kudos to them for creating such an environment.

What an amazing hotel in an incredible setting. The views from the verandah make you feel like you are on top of the world. The team led by the incredibly attentive and professional general manager is friendly, professional and provides the best service possible. The Lipton Suite is superb and the whole hotel is spotless. Lots of little details like the tuk tuk ride up to Lipton seat, the high tea on the terrace, the delicious food and the comfortable and spotless house make this one of a kind stay. Even though it is now a month ago, I cannot get our stay at Thotolagala out of my mind. The setting s stupendous but it it is the people who make this place very special. The service, care and attention to detail is amazing. On our first morning, I went out with my paint box to do a watercolour sketch on the veranda, There was apparently no one around, and as I was rummaging in my bag for pencils etc, three pots of water magically appeared on the table. The food was delicious, the swimming pool refreshing, the walks in the area beautiful. Thank you Mandala , Charmara and all the team for making this an amazing experience. We cannot wait to return,

An amazing location with an absolutely spectacular view, wonderful food, beautiful room but what makes Thotalagala so special was the service and attention to detail which was probably among the best we've had anywhere in the world - a really special place to stay.

Thotalagala is a historic house located in a beautiful landscape, with only some few individually designed rooms. We had a full inclusive, which even included a trip with a tuk-tuk up to Liptons Seats climing up a narrow street through the tea plantations. We had a beautiful but too short time there with top and very personal service. Thank you the entire team of Thotalagala, who surprised us with a cake celebrating our 40th anniversary and making our stay so memorable. Marcel & Nelida

The best place ever. From the moment you arrive to your departure at Thotalagala you are treated like royalty. The place is exquisite and quiet with a beautiful view overlooking the valley all the way to Yala and the coast. A beautiful garden with an infinity pool filled with clean spring water from the mountain is a beautiful surrounding to this exclusive place that was once the home of a tea plantage owner. The service is magnificent - especially Malshan who was very attentive and made us feel special. And to top it all, the food is just amazing - with a new mouthwatering menu everyday. Put Thotalagala on your bucket list and you will get an experience of a lifetime.
