We arrived at the hotel quite late in the evening, around 8pm, and were surprised to find there was no one at the door or reception to greet us. Unfortunately, our first impression was not great — the hotel looked quite different from the photos online, and we immediately felt like we had been somewhat misled.
Upon entering our room, we noticed it wasn’t as clean as expected. There were visible stains on the walls, floor, and bedding, which made us uncomfortable. The bathroom had a persistent damp and drain-like smell throughout our stay, which didn’t improve even with ventilation.
We brought our concerns to reception the next morning, and to their credit, the staff were very kind and responsive. Someone did come to clean the room, and we appreciated the effort. However, despite their help, we still didn’t feel the room was truly clean, and ended up purchasing our own cleaning supplies to feel more at ease.
Fresh towels and bedding weren’t provided by default and had to be requested — and even then, they weren’t always available, which was a bit inconvenient.
Another major issue was the presence of bugs in the room. While we understand this can be expected in parts of Southeast Asia, the number was excessive. We suspect this was due to the poor sealing on the sliding doors, which couldn’t be fully shut from either inside or out, allowing insects easy access.
On a more positive note, the location is quite good — only about a 10-minute bike-ride to the beach and main tourist areas. And again, we have to emphasize that the staff were genuinely lovely and did their best to help whenever we needed assistance.
All things considered, while the price is affordable and the location convenient, the cleanliness and maintenance issues were hard to overlook. Personally, we wouldn’t stay here again, but for budget travelers who are more flexible and can look past these factors, it might still be a viable option.
