Most importantly, we barely got any sleep, due to the windows and skylight in our 2 bedroom, very expensive room having insufficient window coverings. Rooms are way too bright to sleep. The rooms had gabled windows which only have light filtering shades for the upper floor bedroom and the same shades with curtains on lower level. The curtains do not cover the windows, as they are slanted. The sun came up before 5am on the 2 mornings we spent at this property. Having nothing decent to block the light does not allow the guests to sleep. Further, the toilet and bathroom have very bright lights that cannot be turned off. How are you supposed to sleep? If the purpose of a hotel is sleep, and I think it is, they have invested in the wrong things here. No one needs slabs of granite on the wall. We need dark rooms. Further, we spend about an hour “moving into” a hotel room. We had our personal things in specific places for specific reasons. We had our laptops in backpacks on the sofa and they were moved to the floor “so the housekeeper could clean.” Clean the sofa? How? I do not appreciate our computers being moved without our permsission. She also moved a number of other items, including food, which she put on top of the heated area above mini fridge which means we cannot drink the beer or water which was in plastic bottle and should not have been heated. She also moved my purse. I had taken out the pad of paper, pen, and postcards from the hotel’s binder to use when I returned from our tour, and it was all put away when we got back. Absurd. This has not happened in the literally 2,000 nights in hotels we have spent elsewhere. On our first night, the room upstairs never got below 20 degrees Celsius. On our second night, even though the management claims they reduced the temperature (centrally controlled), it was still too hot to sleep. The thermostat was “set” to 14.5, supposedly, but the temperature did not get below a reading of 18.5. If it were 18.5, I would have been freezing all night. Instead, I was unable to sleep, because it was so hot. Lastly, they have the most bizarre hours for pool and spa. No spa until 2-8pm. And pool only from 8-10. This did not work for our schedule which was very disappointing as it is lovely. In conclusion, I would never stay here. Management was dismissive of our being upset that the housekeeper moved our things for no reason, and also told us that the room was bright because the building was situated facing the sun. This is absurd. There are several manufacturers of blackout and room darkening shades. They should have spent their investment on things that would ensure their high paying guest got sleep. Spa and wellness hotel – sleep is a part of wellness; what were they thinking?
