The Crown Inn Pooley Bridge

Nice setting by the river, just called in for drinks. The place was packed but the queue at the bar went down quick. Didn’t try the food but looked decent. Friendly service, three local cask ales on. Plenty of spaces to sit, inside or outside. TV screens outside showing football if that’s your thing.

Called this charming pub in idyllic location in the centre of the village, always busy with walkers and tourists. I’m always wary of these places as they have guaranteed custom all year round and sometimes standards aren’t that good. Very pleasantly surprised 👌 staff were absolutely brilliant and so friendly and quick to service. Really great atmosphere as well. We ordered some loaded fries and halloumi fries which were fine but not the best otherwise this would have been a 5 star review. We’ll definitely be back which sadly can’t be said about other venues in the village. Well done 👏

Just popped in for a pint while staying locally elsewhere and was served the best pint of Guinness I've had in a long time by Mel. Just look at that head and dome! MrsP had a large Shiraz and found it really nice as well. Overall, a really good visit!

Great location and very dog friendly,this cosy pub makes an excellent base to explore the lakes with your dogs or just relax and enjoy the atmosphere. The staff are really friendly and nothing is too much trouble,Aimee and her team are always on the ball to help out and enhance your stay. There are picturesque views from the rear terrace of the pub over the river eamont and the large comfortable dining area has a nice atmosphere.The food is lovely pub fayre and the breakfasts are excellent with lots of choice. The rooms are clean and cosy and well appointed this pub is highly recommended for a relaxing stay you won't be disappointed.

A lovely inn with very spacious rooms. Very comfortable beds. Staff were very attentive and friendly. Walking distance to Ullswater Steamers. Lovely location on river. Really quiet in our room even though the Inn was crowded with people. A really nice evening meal and a lovely breakfast each morning.

Overpriced poor quality food made with what seemed like frozen ingredients. Complained about one dish ( it was dried out & felt like it had been reheated a dozen times) & got a shrug of the shoulders. Waiter clearly couldn’t have cared less. Last big issue was dogs allowed to sit in chairs at table & were eating from plates on the table

Very scenic and a lovely location near Ullswater. The staff were brilliant and it all made for a fantastic stay in village surroundings. The bar downstairs is a cosy space for a drink and there are plenty of places to visit and great scenery on the doorstep

Great setting on the riverside and enjoyable food and really welcoming staff. We had the fish and chips and chicken burger. The fish was especially fragrant and tasty. We’d definitely eat there again. It was busy on a Sunday night and we weee only just squeezed in. Probably worth booking.

After booking the accommodation and Christmas dinner, Ed, the manager kept us informed by email all the way. Four of us stayed at the Crown Hotel in Pooley Bridge over Christmas 2023. We arrived Christmas Eve and where shown to our room (no 4) by Aimee. We found the room large and well equipped complete with a Christmas card and a present consisting of fudge, post card and bottle of rum. The bathroom was large with a fantastic over the bath shower and plenty of hot water. The soap, body lotion and shampoo were by ‘The White Company’. In the bedroom was a large TV and sofa, iron, kettle, tea pot and plenty of teas and coffee bags. The room was serviced on Christmas Day, (hoovered, bed made, fresh water, tea and coffee bags and fresh towels). The hotel it’s self was very clean, with two smaller side rooms each with a real fire and a large rear room, all positioned around the bar area. The staff were all very friendly, tentative and worked as a well organised team. You could be served at your table or from the bar. The meals were excellent, very high quality and well presented. We had the afternoon tea, and Christmas Dinner and well a breakfast; even the Christmas crackers had good gifts in them. Dogs are allowed in all areas of the hotel, one of ours couldn’t settle and I took her out around 1.30 and 4am. Dave, the night porter was on hand to open the door and keep the building safe. A great experienced had by all due to the tentative staff, quality of food and quality and range of drinks. On Christmas day there was carol singing around the village which was very well attended. Easy access to great walks along the river or lake.
