Purchase your ocean fresh lobsters from the fisherman who uses the wharf in your back yard, steam them with the outside lobster cooker, and savor them either on the picnic table by the water or in comfort inside. Whether it is Summer or Winter, sunny or foggy, warm (never hot) or chilly, once you cross the bridge from the mainland the rhythm of the tides (12') is hard to resist. You will never lack for things to see and do. A short 5 minute drive takes you to the end of Beals Island to Wass Island where the Downeast Institute is located along with some of the U.S.'s best hiking, kayaking and birdwatching. Another short trip (about 5 miles) takes you to beautiful Sandy Beach, which is not only picturesque but great for sunbathing or a refreshing dip. Acadia National Park, Schoodic Point, Campobello Island, St. John N.B., Eastport, and Quoddy Head are all an easy and fun day trip. From sardine museum to mustard factory to reversing rapids to tiny baby lobsters to giant whirlpools; you can see it all. And the world's best seafood.
