The Montagu Arms

We recently returned to the Montagu Arms following our incredible wedding there last year. (If you are looking for wedding venue, please, please check this place out!) We stayed for our first year anniversary. A complimentary stay, kindly gifted to us last year. When we arrived, we were surprised with a room upgrade to the beautiful Hayloft Barn Suites. Wow!! These suites are stunning. A gorgeous comfy king size bed, a huge bathroom, underfloor heating, a mezzanine floor with a lovely lounge area. There are also so many little added touches and that really make this room special. Once in the room we were greeted with a lovely anniversary card and some chocolates! Such a lovely touch! It’s hard to find enough positive words to describe our experience with this hotel! It’s in a stunning setting, the hotel itself is beautiful with lots of history. It always smells incredible, (we’ve found out since that it’s the montagu arms scent which is exclusive to the hotel!). They celebrate each season there with different displays and added additions .. but the absolutely best thing about this hotel is the staff… they make each visit memorable. Nothing is too much trouble for them. They gave us star treatment the first time we called in on a random Saturday asking to check out the place as a potential wedding venue and they have treated us the same way ever since! This was a real spur of the moment stay having found ourselves in Beaulieu on the first Friday in November. We went into the hotel by accident (had meant to go into the adjacent pub for lunch) and met Vince at the reception. What a charming and helpful man! After a chat with him we went off for a bite to eat and made the decision to stay the night at the Hotel. I booked on line whilst we were having lunch and when we went back to the hotel Vince greeted us like old friends! He was really helpful in the registration process, giving us lots of information about the hotel and carrying my bag to our beautiful room. I think from the outside you might not realise how luxurious the rooms are. We stayed in one of the rooms which is round a courtyard outside the back of the hotel. Lovely White Company toiletries, lovely bed linen and towels, tea and coffee making facilities, comfortable large bed, great shower and bathroom. As we had celebrated a birthday we had a bottle of Champagne with us. There were no wine glasses in the room so we called reception to see if they could provide some glasses and less than 5 minutes later there was Vince again at our door with wine glasses!! Beaulieu itself is lovely to walk around and we enjoyed a stroll before coming back to relax in our lovely room. We ate in the hotel dining room which, as others have said, is a step back in time! Wooden paneling, white table linen. The food was good. We will definitely stay here again if we find ourselves in Beaulieu, but hope Vince will be there still!!

Excellent friendly hotel providing a first class service. Everyone was friendly and could not have been more helpful. Food excellent. Room was immaculate and very comfortable. Lovely garden for enjoying afternoon drinks. A great base for visit to New Forest and Beaulieu.
