Devonshire Arms at Beeley - Chatsworth

Went for lunch and I thought both drinks and food expensive for what I got. A glass of very dry Merlot and homily pie with veg. I ordered homity pie and the pie crust was hard and the contents were just diced potato with very little flavourless cheese sauce. No sign of spinach. Stringy sugar snap peas as well.

The Inn has a great location for walks to and around Bakewell and Chatsworth House. The bar area was very atmospheric and October is a good time to visit as the wood burner was radiating heat. Service was very good being friendly and efficient. For eating there is both the bar area and a more modern restaurant. We ate in the bar and you can pick and choose between both menus. This is not a review of the restaurant. The bedroom off the landing above the bar wasn't anything special but it was clean and had a very large comfortable bed. The en-suite shower room was good, brightly-lit and clean. Breakfast is served in the new restaurant and was excellent, being a mix of buffet items and order items such as full English, smoked salmon and eggs Benedict. I'm hovering between 4 and 5 stars on this one.

Lovely welcome from Sammy (makes for such a great start) to this very nice traditional pub in a typically quiet Derbyshire village on the Chatsworth estate. A nice room, which obviously once contained a king-size bed without en-suite (the huge padded bed-head on the wall a dead giveaway). Unfortunately this room has been transformed into a small double en-suite by squeezing a poky loo cubicle into the corner and installing a large claw-foot bath in the room itself, just inside the door (no shower). Decor a bit odd - as if candy-floss pink painted walls were added later and do not quite work or match with the original more subtle furnishings. Largely unexceptional room, borderline poky. Food: average pub-grub, we had a nice enough pie. Staff: very obliging, quickly changed the bottle of sparkling water in our room for still, and the pack of Estate biscuits in the room were a nice touch. Special thanks to the very obliging Sammy who located our lost sweater after our departure and had it posted back to us at no charge - really much appreciated.

We love this place, feels like home when we arrive. We stay over on a journey across country and its always warm and welcoming with comfortable rooms and good food. The staff are very cheery. I like that its a typical English inn without any pretention to be more. Thanks to all.

Just returned home after a few days away. Absolutely loved our room with quirky furnishings. Room was lovely, warm and cosy with a super big bed. Loved the Chatsworth toiletries supplied in the huge shower room so much so we even bought some visiting Chatsworth House to take home. Booked their Chatsworth experience offer and that included tickets to visit Chatsworth House and grounds for 2 days. Food was excellent and recommend the scrambled eggs for breakfast. Many thanks for the delicious biscuits supplied in the room. Lovely friendly staff too. Only downside was the weather but that didn't stop us enjoying our trip and we will be back next year.

Delicious food, as always, in a perfect country pub with excellent service. The peach and goats cheese salad was delicious and my fellow diners loved their Moss Valley Bacon Chop. The triple cooked chips, although pale in colour did NOT disappoint in crispiness! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

We only spent a couple of nights here but couldn’t fault it. Our room was spacious, comfortable and clean and it was lovely to have a small fridge with fresh milk and chilled water. The toiletries provided were really lovely, so much so that we bought ourselves some from the shop to take home! All the staff were friendly and efficient and the two evening meals and breakfasts that we had were delicious. The perfect location for visiting Chatsworth and the surrounding areas.

My wife and I and 2 friends stayed here on 9th Sept for 3 nights. Our room (Ashop) was very cosy and clean and the bathroom was brilliant! However our friends (also mid 70's) room had a lot to be desired including a bath which was so big they couldn't get out without help. I suspect this room should only be offered to a younger couple! Also cleanliness was lacking. They were offered another room which was dirty, had many cobwebs and only one towel which despite several requests was not added to. I agree with a previous review which mentioned the steak and ale pie. I'm afraid it was a case of hunt the steak. My fried breakfast was dry and disappointing so I skipped it on the 2nd and 3rd mornings. Also on the second morning we had to wait 45 minutes to be served and in a 5-star hotel one does not expect streaky bacon for breakfast. We do not believe this was up to the standard of a 5-star hotel.

Just come from the Devonshire Arms which sadly needs revamping it’s very tired , I had steak pie which was frankly dreadful it was spot the meat but full of fat ! My business partner had bacon chop which was good The Duke needs to spend some money on this place
