Houhaiyuan Hotel situated in the Hutong area, and I absolutely love the surroundings and the view. Everything about this area is just wonderful! The room is clean and well maintained. The location is great—just a 10-minute walk to the Shichahai Subway Station (什剎海地铁站）, a 15-minute walk to Prince Gong Mansion (恭王府）a 15-minute walk to Yandai Diagonal Street (烟袋斜街) and close to Gulou Street (鼓楼大街). The customer service was excellent, with staff who were both helpful and polite. I would definitely love to stay here again. Highly recommended!

Very comfortable hotel within 10 minutes to local eateries and underground trains. Hutong touring tricycles offer neat experience however language barrier with tricycle peddler/guide is severe especially due to local accents. Staff at hotel with minimal English. But staff very helpful if you manage to communicate. A British couple in their 60-70’s said Google translate works surprisingly well for their 4 days stay there and said they truly enjoyed their stay there. We’d return if opportunities arise again.

Beautiful hotel in perfect location, quiet but very central. Staff is extremly helpful and kind. Breakfast can be recommended, it’s a mixture between East and West. The rooms are clean. We‘ve already been threre the second time and will definitely stay there again.

Trip.com lists English as spoken at the front desk, but I found no serious attempt to do so. If you invite a friend to your room to drop off a bag during daylight hours, reception goes berserk with Chinese-only phone calls to your room within a minute. I notice that this policy is not stated on Trip.com. Aside from that, the hotel is very pleasant and I have no hesitation to recommend it to travellers with good level of experience. Fresh arrivals to China might like to look elsewhere. I’ll be back.

Lovely hotel within walking distance to Hou Hai area. Room is quiet and comfortable, good breakfast spread. The only issue would be limitation in food choices nearby. Still, it was an enjoyable stay as service was great!

Very good and comfortable hotel, we had all that we expected and more, breakfast was very good with lots of choices, the room was very ckean and well equiped, they also served us,a fruit in the room. Location is great, close to many attractikns and subway stations, taxi can also easily enter the hutongs. Highly recommend!

wall has water mark for such a young hotel. most taxi will have problems to drop off in such a narrow alley.

This is a beautiful hotel nestled in the Houhai hutong area. The staff are kind and responsive, and the rooms are clean, modern, and well kept. The location of the hostel has benefits and drawbacks. The benefit is that it is located right behind the Houhai Lake and Bar Street which is a beautiful and lively part of the city, and is within a historic hutong area. The drawback is that, given the narrow hutong roads and Houhai pedestrian street, the hotel is not easily accessible by taxi (and at certain times of day is not accessible at all.) You will typically need to walk the last 500-700m from the main streets to the hotel. I would recommend just using the subway if you stay here.

Lovely hotel, recommend to walk to train station rather than to call for transport as it is inside the Hutong area. Clean and cozy room. Surrounding is serene and staff are polite and helpful. Location is near Prince Gong Mansion and Houhai which is a plus point. Would definitely love to come back again the next time we visit Beijing.

We have had a very great experience by staying at HouHaiYuan Hotel with the following reasons: 1. Great location - this hotel is located at 前井胡同，which is a very quiet and serene location. However, it is just a 5 minute walking distance to one of the moat popular tourist attractions - 烟袋斜街，and it is also walking distance to 南锣鼓巷 (about 15 min) and to 恭王府 （about 10 min). It is a walking distance to train station 2. Cleanliness & housekeepong - the room is very clean and every items in the room are free for use, including the beer and drinks in the mini bar 3. Service - the service of the hoteliers are superb! They are very helpful and they were trying their best to assist us in many areas, including helping us in arranging transportation and also our food order as we were unable to do it ourselves due to we are not having a phone line in china.

Total surprise on our visit to old Beijing. I would recommend visiting & staying in the modern hotels in the hutongs instead of the generic accommodations far from old China.

Location wise is meters away from Houhai lake front and the happening clubbing area. Walking distance to nanluoguxiang night market and easy access to metro stations.

the subway is 1.2km away. The cleanliness, concept, friendly receptionist and you will be getting two free cocktail from the bar as complementary

Located end of Houhai area, close to the many drinking bars. Narrow narrow lane, which somehow DiDi cars can still enter. Staff were friendly and helpful. Mini bar with free items. Free laundry facility.
