We had stayed at Sleepy Forest in Big Bear several times before and always had a good experience. However, this time we stayed in cabin #8 and it was not good. As you enter the porch there was dry rot on all the posts and chipping paint, not very impressive! As you entered the kitchen, bedroom and bathroom there was no doubt this cabin needed to be renovated. Paint was chipping, wallpaper loose on the walls, flooring needed to be redone. We are hoping that cabin #8 is next in line for a complete remodel. I will say the cabin was clean and the bed was comfortable. There was no soap at the bathroom sink. I asked the manager for some and she told me that there was soap in the bathtub area. They have a container on the wall with same soap for shampoo, conditioner and body wash, which was a little difficult to transport to the bathroom sink. She also told me people/kids were putting the bar soap down the toilets and clogging them up! Fortunately, I had a small bar of soap in my luggage. There were no stoppers for the bathroom or the kitchen sink. I asked for one and they didn't have any - a little hard to do dishes when you can't put soap and water in the sink. It took a day to get a dish towel. I asked for a dish cloth and they didn't have any. They did finally bring me a sponge. I told them a nice touch would be a roll of paper towels for the kitchen. They told me they used to do that, but people were throwing them down the toilet and again clogging up the toilets. I would recommend that you do not stay in cabin 8 until it has been remodeled. I had booked another cabin without a kitchen that had been newly renovated, I wish I had kept that cabin, but I wanted the convivence of a kitchen. Also #8 is connected to 2 other cabins. At 11:00 at night the people next door, I think, were using their jacuzzi tub - that was pretty loud. Pick a cabin that is not connected to another one! I will stay here again, we like the area, but I will be pickier on what cabin I choose.
