Fortuna House Hotel

The overall feel of the place was really strange, it was uncomfortably quiet, the owner, to be fair to him would help if he could but seems like he has never interacted with people, there is a very strange atmosphere in there. To be fair I will point out the good points first, the location is okish and the beds are quite comfortable. Now the bad points, I will say, I have never stayed at a more old fashioned and run down place in my life, it is not difficult to put a few sheets of wallpaper on and a lick of paint around the place. The furniture is very very outdated and most of it falling apart. I was in room 2 and it is not good, the carpet is burnt in places, there were no doors on the wardrobe, the draw on the bedside table was broken. The TV is so small its not really watchable, my Ipad was bigger. Plus the remote didn't work anyway so I had to keep getting up to switch the channel. There is only 1 accessible plug, the other two are out of reach on top of the wardrobe. The bathroom window had been broken by the pervious person and there was dust still there from the wood and wouldn't open. The bathroom door jammed when closed after a panic we realised it needed to be pulled vertical and pushed hard to get out. The second room we had didnt have so many issues as room two but I will still not recommend a stay. I wont upload photos I dont feel like its my place to embarrass the owner. I am sorry to say this to the owner but you need to invest some serious money into that place and enjoy your guests, interact and chat with them. I say all this as a previous hotel manager for Interstate hotels.

We had our room (no 10) booked for a long weekend, the owners are amazing people and this review is not a reflection of them but our stay wasn’t the best experience we have had when travelling. Our room is very dated and was very dirty, the bottom of the bed is heavily stained and I couldn’t even guess what caused it, so was the headboard to be honest, we cleaned the headboard with our own surface wipes as I couldn’t sleep knowing what was near our heads. The room had the basic needs toilet, sink and a working shower but you cannot help your eyes wandering with the things that are just not right in the room. I would say as a base the location is perfect and I cannot vouch for any of the other rooms in the guest house just the one we stayed in so please note that as well. The mattress is pure metal springs literally poking through and must be years old, it just feels like the room is right at the top and feels forgotten about and hasn’t seen a deep clean for a very long time. As I said the owners are top notch lovely people but I would not recommend this guest house at all as being nice hosts is not enough to paper over a very poor room/experience. I work in hospitality and making sure the PAT testing is up to date Is also a must as people do look for things that meet criteria in hotels.

What a dump!.....i messaged the owners prior to my stay with concerns by what i read on various review sites, most if not all the reviews left alot of negatives saying about the poor conditions of the rooms. When i spoke to the owners prior to my stay, i raised my concerns, however they dismissed them by claiming that the reviews were left by guest who stayed under the previous owners - this was lies as alot of them negative reviews are very recent ones! The owners try to defend themselves like they will when they reply to this review. They will leave the same response which they do for all the reviews, (the beauty of copy and paste!), denying everything, blaming others when the truth is, is that they need to take a long hard look at themselves, stop conning people by overcharging for rooms that are nothing less than disgusting. Our room was number 11, straight up 3 floors of rickety stairs, the room was very small for what was meant to of been a family room, very cramped and a mess - toilet seat uneven, rusty bathroom holder, which doubled up as a single toilet roll holder, broken towel rail, stains on the carpet, torn wallpaper, dirty/rusty radiator, stains on the wallpaper, hairs, decaying walls......and they are the things in my eyeline, without lifting up mattresses/bedding etc as i no doubt would of found more things! There was even a bag containing something behind the bedside cabinet, i did not even bother to look what was in it - do these people even bother cleaning? This is one of the worse places i have ever had the displeasure of staying in - it is a dump and the owners should be ashamed of themselves for not only allowing people to stay here but having the nerve to charge what they do! I know they wont, but these owners need to do the right thing and redecorate from top to bottom and be more cleaner, as they cannot keep blaming the previous owners of this establishment as they are no longer there hence the term 'former'. Message to the owners - Take responsibility - too many people are leaving negative reviews across numerous sites because they are a true reflection of their experiences - so why don't you, the owners act and do something about it! On the plus side, the Fortuna is located in the quiet part of the South Pier end, there is street parking nearby but you may have to circle the streets in order to find somewhere.

Arrived and not even open!...tried ringing no reply!....we were left with nowhere to stay!...Unopened mail on the floor through letterbox so I guess there hadn't been anyone there for a while....took our money through a booking agent months ago....that is classified as THEFT in my books!.... Do Not Book...Avoid At All Costs!...
