Hótel Skálholt in Golden Circle

After I searched for staff(sign says go to lounge- but I had to “Hello… “ a couple times. He was friendly and gave me a quick tour. The front door locks overnight, sign says use your key code but I never got a key code no one came when I banged so I went around to the restaurant window and banged until I was let in. Lovely serene setting with a small historical church on the property but not much else around. 10 min drive for gas and mini mart. Fludir 20 min has more. The bathroom is tiny with a shower curtain, water gets everywhere! Had to dry off and dress outside of bathroom. We went to the Secret Lagoon and showered there the next day. Dinner was good but $$ as is everything in Iceland

A beautifully designed building on an open field. Hot tubs are available with no hour restrictions facing the west. Room was hot on arrival but there was a window to open. Comfortable pillows and bed.

Great Hotel and staff The hotel was nice, had hot tubs, a bar and restaurant. The rooms were nice. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We ate at the restaurant, opting to try all of the sharing board options which were all great. The Mushroom Soup main was also lovely. Great hotel and staff.

We very much enjoyed our stay at the beautiful hotel remotely located in nature. It had a wonderful breakfast and staff were friendly. Accessibility: There are a series of a few small steps on the main floor which make it difficult when traveling with a stroller and luggage. There is a back door that is accessible with no stairs involved. It has access to the rooms located at the end of the hotel. Perhaps guests with children can request a room at the end near the back door.

Was very disappointed to get to the hotel and find out they had been trying the credit card that I held the property with. It was supposed to be a pay upon arrival and they charged my credit card two days early. My understanding of pay upon arrival is that you pay upon arrival. Other than that, a very nice hotel other than the fact the breakfast is much too expensive for what you receive. I’ve stayed in many many hotels in Iceland and this is one I will most likely, not return to because of the reason stated above. Not cool.

Extremely comfortable and clean hotel. Loved our stay!
