Hotel San Donato - Bologna Centro recensioner

The hotel is in. Great location perfect to walk around and there is a good few bars near by. The hotel is a bit dated but it was good service overall and comfortable to sleep.

Great location with great staff. The bell tolls every so often, but it is no bother. Shower is a tad bit tiny but bathroom is big. Lift is available but some rooms on level 2 has a few steps to conquer - do request a room that does not tackle this if you cannot lift your luggage for these few steps. One key per room, but key can be left at reception. We had 4 rooms all up and they mananged to get us all on same floor & close by, as per our request. Again, all the staff are great. Check-in is 3pm, check-out is 11am.

Fantastic location, in the very heart of the city. The room is tiny but clean, the balcony has a splendid view on the old town. The bed of the single bedroom is very small: it was good enough for me, but it might not be enough for a bigger person.

The front desk young women were friendly but somewhat clueless. When we arrived in our room, we discovered our bed used to be a king but had been downsized to a king (see photos). We knew something was off immediately upon seeing the headboard vs. the mattress size. The shower is tiny, slippery and dirty. The a/c condensation line leaked all night and was fixed when reported. However, when we arrived at the hotel late that night after a long day in Florence, the a/c would not come on. The maintenance person came to the room and became flustered because we requested the a/c to be on. The front desk manager said we cannot use the a/c b/c it’s not summer and must open the windows. I said that’s not possible as there is a loud and busy late night bar directly under our window every night. He said, “Sorry”, and hung up. We couldn’t sleep with the music, loud voices and continuous dumping of bottles until the wee hours each night. That night, it was particularly bad as we thought we heard a gunshot. But it was some street celebration which lasted longer than 2 a.m. we barely got any sleep b/c of the outside bar noise and interior heat. It was our last night in Bologna and it was miserable. There was supposed to be a bar with an outside terrace and our room was in close proximity but the bar was never open. I fail to see how a visitor can give this hotel any rating above 2 stars. The location is the best thing about it. The staff is arrogant and dismissive. The amenities are not as advertised. The showe and a/c outlet/filter were dirty and the a/c unit obviously does not have preventative maintenance to prevent clogged condensation lines. I’d never pay the price for a 4 star hotel when the property and service is equivalent to a La Quinta in the U.S..

This hotel is perfectly located in the old and lively university quarter of Bologna. It needs some renovation and the reception team could be more friendly. The rates in Bologna are never very cheap. Ask for a room on the city if you tolerate a bit a noise.

Nice room with views to the old towers. Also has a panoramic terrace where you can enjoy the sunset with amazing views. Friendly staff. The room had nice confortable bed. The shower so good with water presion. Very central and close to main sights to visit

We stayed a Friday and Saturday night, costing over €800 for two nights. They couldn’t pick us up from the airport and offered two taxi companies who wouldn’t make a booking until we had landed. There was no room service (“we do change the sheets” which was good to know, but no other service in your room). To have a glass of wine in your room, you have to go to a local cafe to pick up a bottle. The shower was the size of a postage stamp. If I wasn’t fairly slim, I would not have got in it! No information given by staff and although they were pleasant, they offered no help. The decor and basic room facilities, such as sink, cupboards were clean but otherwise awful. The walls and ceiling and the general way the room was made was appalling- stuck together with glue, almost. Two good things: great view and clean. How could a hotel be rated 4 star for cleanliness and a view? It had literally no facilities!

The hotel was very clean. However for a four star hotel service and amenities were poor. We arrived at 12:30 and were advised we couldn’t check in until 3:00. When I asked if we could possibly be checked in earlier I was advised maybe 2:30 but check in is at 3:00. We were checked in at 2:45. No one shared any information about the rooftop or breakfast. Our room was very nice sized but the bath amenities were almost non existent. One small bottle of hair/body wash. No conditioner no lotion. Went to breakfast next day and was disappointed. Very limited selection and eggs were cold and somewhat raw. I had read about the rooftop and asked how to access and was told it was closed! While location is very convenient we would not stay there again. Not a four star in service or amenities.

We had a very disappointing stay here as part of our honeymoon. Staff on reception not at all friendly. The hotel is basic at best and I guess survives on the fact that it has elevated viewing areas from which you can see a fantastic vista of the city. The vista in our room, not so much. I could have cried when I looked out the window from our basic, insipid room. In fact, we decided we would leave and book elsewhere but our fee was non refundable so could not. There was absolutely no atmosphere and staff looked blank or indeed rather grumpily on as we passed. The corridors look like a hospital — no decor to be seen. There is no bar open at night to take drinks out to the terrace and we had nothing in the room — on checking out, we were asked if we had taken from the mini bar — there wasn’t one. When I told them this, they said there was it was just very well hidden. We had looked everywhere for this and still we are none the wiser. Breakfast is okay…nothing special. We wouldn’t have minded if we had booked budget accommodation for a quick city break but this hotel was costly.

Very disappointing experience with the hotel manager who preferred to argue for 35 minutes with us instead making a gesture to please us, the customers. I joined my friends for one night in the hotel. They had already booked two double rooms. I was asked to pay an additional amount of 30 euros at the reception which I did only to discover that my friend had already paid ahead the additional amount. In fact they asked her to cancel and redo the reservation through Booking and pay an additional amount, instead of just adding a name to the room as they were asked through email. After endless arguments, the manager only refunded 15 euros. VERY DISAPPOINTING

This is a good hotel with comfortable rooms, nice firm beds and sufficient closet space. The rooms were very quiet and clean. All of the staff were super friendly and helpful. The location is great. The only thing that prevented a higher rating was the breakfast which is not included in the room price. For €15/person you gain entrance to the buffet breakfast. It’s OK but nothing special. The pre-made eggs and bacon were cold, the orange juice not fresh. So it was OK but worth about half the price charged, at best.

We arrived in Bologna and our original accommodation had fallen through. This hotel was around the corner I went and asked if any rooms were available and what the cost would be. Manager said 100 euros. I left to get my husband, son and all our luggage. When we returned the rude girl at the desk said she couldn’t possibly reserve us a room we had to go online to do it (whilst standing in their lobby at the front desk at 5pm in the off season) in case somehow there was a double booking through the internet at the same time. Their WiFi wasn’t working we managed to book through the website paid 120 euros not the 100 euros promised and had the worst nights sleep of our trip. DO NOT STAY HERE! Dodgy rip off people and not good value for money.
