Fairmount Hotel

Oh my goodness, where do I start with this place? It’s a cheap cruddy place to sleep - if there is no shop doorway available. It’s nothing more than a hostel at best. In fact I stayed in a much nicer hostel during a school trip in 1992. This ‘Hotel’ is smelly, dirty and very noisy! The rooms initially looked ok but are absolutely filthy. I had hair in my bed as well as a blood stain on the sheet. The bathroom was cold and stunk of damp.

Booked to stay at The Fairmount Hotel for a friends birthday. Together we booked four rooms. This is not a hotel… this is a hostel! We didn’t actually stay the night as we found hundreds of BED BUGS in two of the rooms. Thankfully we hadn’t even taken our bags into the rooms before we turned and left. Pictures make this place look ok. It really isn’t. Disgusting place! The thought of bed bugs fills me with dread. Couldn’t get out quick enough.

Got in the room, was filthy and noticed the towels for all 6 of us were covered in poo stains. Asked for new towels and was told I’d have to pay for them. Showed him the towels and said would you be happy with that? He got new towels. The new ones also had stains! AVOID.

At first glance, the room looks nice. However, there was mould in the bathroom, and the lamp above the bathroom mirror was really mouldy and didn't work. Whoever used the room or cleaned the room before left a used tampon in the bathroom bin, which was unpleasant. Also no bathroom mats for stepping out of the shower or hand towels. I stored my clothes in a little cubbie hold next to the bed and when I put my shirt in the morning on there was grime and stains from something sticky on the wood. We paid for a double room, but it was just two single beds pushed together, making it difficult to sleep next to my partner as the beds moved in the night. We were above the smoking area and at half three there were a group of lads being very loud and being sick and no one from front desk went to ask them to be a bit more considerate. I understand its a party town on a Saturday but I'm sure there is suppose to be a low level noise policy after a certain time. On the positive side the beds were well made and comfy and the man at the front desk is always very polite and helpful.

The Hotel is clean and tidy Room very small for a family of 4 The shower took a long time to heat up then the water trickled out No storage for clothes except for a few hangers on wall No Bedside cabinets Very basic Not good value for money

- Rooms look dark, dingy and dirty. - Amenities are awful. - Service is appalling. - The staff are extremely rude, possibly some of the rudest people I have met in my life. At least if I went to Karen's diner, I would be paying them to be rude to me. - The manager thinks he's entitled; - He does not care about his customers and he proved that when he put the phone down on me in the middle of me speaking after having shouted over me. - When I called back, he told me I had 1 minute to talk before he would hang up. I explained to him that myself and a few friends had booked to stay here on New Year's Eve. However my friend had been rushed to A&E at 11:30pm / 11:45pm on 29th December. I asked him if he could request a refund be paid to me, as I had missed the free cancellation (needed to be requested by 29th December 11:59pm), due to unforeseen circumstances and confirmed that *********** had said this should be ok and even sent a waiver. The manager refused to give me a refund. He rejected the waiver. Didn't show any sensitivity or understanding and instead said "I'm sorry, we can't give you a refund". Absolutely disgraceful. The manager should not be running the hotel, he needs to be fired and the hotel needs to be shut down, it's disgusting. Don't book this hotel unless you want a bad experience. I wouldn't even rate it 1 star if that was an option. However, if you do choose to stay here, good luck... you'll need it.
