Scala Boutique-Hotel

I made a mistake in my reservation and booked for a wrong date (made the booking at 22:30 in the evening for the same day instead of the next day). When I asked the hotel to refund my mistaken reservation they refused. This is an arrogant approach and indicates that money comes before the guests for those guys. I will NEVER STEP in that Hotel again!

Sadly, I cannot recommend this place. I ended up at Scala because they missmanaged my reservation in one of their other hotels, and had to transfer me. And yet - Fridge - didn't work - Bathrobe - ripped. Phone - didn't work. I became frustrated and wrote to the management. No reply by the end of the next day. I eventually met the manager, who informed me she hadn't replied because she was too busy. Then blamed, in many words, the cleaning people and the laundry service. Right before I left, the lady at the reception desk informed me what degree she has, how she's from a noble family, asked me what better hotels are in my country. The place has history and in my opinion should be better respected. But they seemed to me sort of too-well-aware of their number of stars.

Older multi-storey house converted to a hotel. Central location, only 15 minutes walk from the Old Town. Many squeaky stairs, no lift. Period furniture charming, period plumbing not so much. Room large, bed good, bathroom old fashioned. Hot water takes minutes to arrive at second storey, shower leaks, sink has only hot tap, but bath provided. Minibar fridge but no kettle provided. “Thermo-electric” equipment not allowed in room. Day staff professional and helpful. Night staff useless except for napping on couch or playing video games. Breakfast provided down stairs. Nice setting, but selection perhaps aimed at limited clientele. Consequently some items appeared past their use by date. Not up to four star standard. Parking available inside the gate of the hotel, but very limited space (max 3 cars).

Nice hotel, old world eclectic decor, brilliant staff. The only thing to note was that there was no kettle in the room, when we wanted hot water we had to ask for it at the bar. Staff were fantastic; so friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good (served 8-10) although we only made it for one of our 3 mornings! Area is fairly central. Walking distance to all the major stuff.

We came to stay at the Scala Boutique as it was our first online choice. Such a huge mistake. My first impression was incredibly disappointing. I arrived and was barely greeted. It seemed it was a hassle for the reception staff to even speak to me. To cut a long story short: room cleanliness zero, seen cockroaches under the TV stand,dirty floor and rude staff all around. Next step is to get in touch with ANPC Bucharest.

This hotel is excellent. The decor is beautiful and the furniture is very comfortable. The hotel breakfast is delicious and the chef made scrambled eggs, omelette and coffee for us throughout our stay. The reception staff were very useful, with thoughtful recommendations of places to eat and things to see in Bucharest. They were always available for questions and conversations, and implemented our special requests before we arrived at the hotel. The location of the hotel is very central, a short walk from the key attractions around Revolution Square. It is also easy and affordable to get this hotel via public transport from the airport, by taking a train and then a bus. There is also a convenience store located very close to the hotel. I highly recommend that you stay at Scala Boutique Hotel on your next trip to Bucharest!
