The Lily Inn - Burlington

First impression of this place was good; it's a nice, unique old inn, although it's not close to Philadelphia, requiring a minimum 45-minute drive, often longer due to traffic. During our two-day stay, the structure showed its age, with shabby conditions, sticky floors in the room, and no hot water in the shower. The garden was messy and dirty. The staff's professionalism was severely lacking. On the first day, breakfast was a letdown. The staff member in charge seemed unaware of additional guests, improvising a meager meal of scrambled eggs, two yogurts, and four strawberries. Despite apologizing and agreeing to our request for a 9 am breakfast the next day, she woke us up at 7:40 am to confirm and prepare it. The next morning's breakfast was equally disappointing ans really poor as you can see from the photo with a ready-to-cook pancake mix with a dirty hot plate to cook it that we prefered not to use. On top off it, the staff member took photos of the food on the table , including one with me in the background without permission, maybe to prove she did her job in preparing breakfast to the manager, so I had to ask her to delete it. Given the complete lack of professionalism and the inn's condition, I wouldn't recommend staying here. Instead, consider exploring other options that offer better service and are closer to Philadelphia.

Candace was an amazing host! She let us know of all the things to do in the area! Me and my husband went on our anniversary trip and we stayed in the pink room, in my opinion It was the best room in the house. We stayed for 4 nights and felt right at home. The entire house was beautiful and I loved reading about the history of the house! Also the breakfast was amazing!

Nice historic building. Tastefully decorated. Great breakfast (weekends only I think). I stayed in a room that was at the back of the residence. Later found out it was in the process of renovations. It is small and there was at least a 1/2" gap at the bottom of the window. Someone attempted to remedy the issue with plastic. It did not work. The result, a drafty room. No extra blankets in the room. Turning the heat up did not address the problem.

An excellent place to stay when visiting the area. Old Town ambiance with every comfort and convenience. Loved the interior furnishings, and the back garden for strolling & sitting--including the scent of boxwood (typical of Burlington and the Middle Atlantic region--I've missed it since I moved away!). The immediate neighborhood is architecturally charming and walkable; the nearby waterfront is particularly lovely. The host, Candace, was responsive and welcoming. She had good info about the area. She provided a delicious breakfast, made to order. As I was traveling solo, I appreciated her gentle conversation as I enjoyed my meal. Choose the Lily Inn for your stay if you want an authentic experience of the best that Burlington has to offer.

After a previous stay at this hotel I thought we had found a gem. This second time however, was disappointing. Upon arrival we could not gain access to the hotel. The door was locked and we did not receive the welcome email that contained the door entry code. After 15 minutes and 3 phone calls we managed to get in. The key to our room was supposed to be on the bedside table but it was not. We therefore had to leave the door to our room open when we went out for dinner. Breakfast on the first morning consisted on fresh fruit, yoghurt and bagels but no cream cheese, butter or any other spread for the bagel. Juice and coffee were provided but no glasses to drink the juice from. We could not find a staff member to ask for these items. Breakfast on the second morning was non existent. No food, juice or coffee was available and no staff member could be found. We had to go elsewhere for food. We decided to leave early on the third morning and find breakfast rather than wait and be disappointed again. This is a lovely hotel and the staff, when available, are very friendly. Our previous stay had been wonderful so not sure what the problem was this time around.

What a gem of a place. Historic and only a block from the Delaware. Anyway, go before the area is discovered and rates go up. Shawnee was our innkeeper and she made us feel very welcomed. Great experience and next time we'll stay a few nights so we can explore the area. By the way, a lot of restaurants and antique shops. Fun.
