Ravenwood Hall Hotel

I stayed at the Rawenwood this week and was really impressed with the friendly staff and great service I have received. Food was great and very comfortable bed. The room was decorated with Tudor style and very much countryside theme. It’s a great building with conference and wedding facilities. Thank you to all staff making my stay very enjoyable and comfortable.

So utterly disappointed. It has been a long time since we visited but remembered a warm welcoming place with amazing food. My mum wanted to take the family out to say thank you. On arriving the place was freezing the toilets closed and the disabled toilet on offer still had tools and workman equipment lying around. The menu was horrible piece of paper with little option other than Roast. It was Sunday though! We ordered drinks which arrived one at a time being carried by different waiters. No straws for the children's drink when we asked they went picked up two very short straws and just put them on the table!! The wine was plonked down without opening or pouring. We then waited and waited whilst another table got sat, ordered and got there drinks. I counted three serving staff and only 3 tables so it was not busy. We had to then go to the bar to get the attention of who i assume was the manager. We all ordered Roasts, well the chicken was a dried out breast, not a roast. The veg were cold undercooked, the gravy lovely consistency but so salty it was inedible the only nice thing was cauliflower cheese that was it!! We were not checked on or offered more drinks which we all needed with such salty gravy. Puddings were ordered, i was surprised the manager was not alerted to the uneaten food on all our plates!! We then had to go to the bar to pay as nobody bothered to check on us!! My mum is so upset she had hoped for a lovely lunch and thought from previous experience she had picked somewhere lovely. Clearly it has changed hands and be avoided at all costs, totally lost its heart and standards!!

Christmas package 24Dec through 27Dec Charming country hotel. Lovely setting. Great atmosphere and value for money. Excellent service. A big shout out to all the staff. Especially Sammy, Simon and Daisy, who made our stay a very enjoyable one.

Writing this from a Culinary point of view , was approached three times by the General manager james to look at how the Hotel could improve there food offering eventualy joining the team in May following a degree of promise from the management that the new owner would be investing. Sadly after 3 days the Manager resigns the chefs are At best school cooks and no degree of my investment in guiding the overwhelmed kitchen team will make a difference.. this venue could and should be a real gem with the food being a focal point but sadly as the old saying goes you pays peanuts you gets Monkeys and no end of paying the Head Chef a fair crack helps when you're the only one that can turn out consistent high standards .. first you have to invest in your hotel improve the simple things ,rooms old tired decoration the grounds a dining room set up for what looks like a cheap coach tour and lastly the kitchen and some degree of reality in your chef recruitment . This should be a four star rosette rated hotel not God's waiting room

We booked Ravenwood Hall Hotel primarily for its proximity to a wedding we attended. We were aware of the hotel and knew the grounds were lovely. However, our stay was disappointing. Our room was tatty, it looked unloved and several things did not work. There was only one bedside lamp and it did not work. The hot tap was incredibly hard to turn on and off and a tilting mirror did not stay in position. One of the pairs of curtains did not close properly and there was scuffed paintwork on the walls and door. There were also worrying marks on one of the headboards. I had booked one night online then rang two weeks before our stay to add on our breakfasts. I was quoted a price and told that I must pay for the breakfasts when I checked in. I duly did this and was asked for an extra £3.25 per breakfast. I paid the price quoted on the telephone. The next morning, the dining room staff had not been made aware of our booking. They were friendly and asked us to wait while they wiped down a table. Our table was still covered in salt and pepper and crumbs. When we checked out, the man on reception briefly paused his private telephone call to tell us that we were fine to go!

As with some of the other reviews and I don’t know whether the rooms are a different standard in the main building to those in the Mews, where I was staying. I can only describe the room I as in need of a serious upgrade, carpets were threadbare and coming away from the carpet gripper the net curtains above the door had holes in them and there was also mould and damp in the bedroom mainly on the bottom of the curtains and the door and in the bathroom. I can’t comment on the food as I decided to eat out. I also went elsewhere for breakfast. Really sorry for the review the grounds however looked amazing and were well kept. It’s just a pity that that effort wasn’t put into these rooms.
