Relais Almaranto

The hotel has some fantastic pictures on their website, but the reality falls far short of them. The pool area appears worn out and messy, with holes in the paving. The pool turned out to be open to the public on weekends and was not the quiet hideaway the hotel advertised. Additionally, the pool was filled with green algae and was dirty, making one fear for their health if they dared to take a dip. The bistro was understaffed and several menu items were unavailable. It was also not possible to get beverages with breakfast until the staff had washed the glasses, as the hotel simply does not have enough glasses for the number of guests. We have never experienced this at hotels in this price range before. Finally, we were assigned a room with a beehive outside, which the hotel did resolve by upgrading us to another room. However, this required significant insistence, as the manager initially claimed the noise was from the air conditioning. Overall, the experience led us to want to leave the hotel a day early, as it fell far short of expectations and the price. The hotel, however, refused to refund this night despite having provided a different product than promised. This hotel cannot be recommended.

Tucked away in the beautiful countryside between Asti, Alba and Nizza Monferrato, Almaranto offers beautiful settings, warm comfort and delightful enjoyment of cooking and wine tasting. Rooms are well decorated, recently refurbished with all possible amenities. The place is absolutely quiet, away from busy tourist buzz, yet still within easy reach for visits of medieval cities, nice countryside and welcoming wineries. It is an ideal place for cycling tours. But more interestignly, it offers cooking courses led by the owner Alexa Shulte, a reknowned German cooking passionista, in an amzingly equipped kitchen; moreover, this is the land of the white truffle! Finally, the whole team provide an amazingly friendly welcome and cater for your every need. This more than a hotel, a place for wellbeing and repairing, not to miss.

We had a 4 days stay and enjoyed this beautiful place. The Giardino Rooms are comfortable and very classy. We appriciated the amazing spirit of the Team and the way they work. Also to mention is the extraordinary quality of both Restaurants, Anima and Adagio.

I visited the restaurant at the hotel with friends for an evening of small plates and wine. The hotel is beautifully designed and feels very classy. The welcome from the staff was warm and the service was friendly, attentive but not intrusive. The food was excellent, with highlights including the arancini and the local cold meats and cheeses. We also enjoyed the lovely Tasmorcan Barbera d'Asti. Looking forward to returning on my next visit.

We celebrated our wedding at Relais Almaranto in September 2023, and from the initial planning to the final event, everything was flawless. Organizing a wedding from the US was made easy by Alexa's helpful and detailed planning. Each room, meticulously designed with a blend of old charm and modern conveniences, received rave reviews from our guests who appreciated the unique character of each space. The entire staff was accommodating, pleasant, and contributed to the overall positive experience. The food, featuring fresh Italian cuisine with a premium aesthetic, was excellent throughout our stay and on our wedding day. Our family and friends were thoroughly impressed with the location, design, food, and staff. We highly recommend the Almaranto for an authentic Italian retreat experience or to host weddings and other events.

It is the kind of place you may be tempted to keep to yourself ;-) Then, it looks already popular so may be worth to book early. Having said that, not a crowded establishment, various areas were you can find a comfortable and/or secluded place to relax. Pool looks great and of above average size for the area; however, we didn’t have time to test it. Thus, plan to return and also to experience again cuisine and local produce (two restaurants: elegant dinner type - will not be surprised if soon with Michelin star - and a more casual bistro). PS Ambiance during breakfast on the upper terrace is not to be missed (one of the best we have had in Italy: quality produce)
