Bowood Hotel, Spa, and Golf Resort

Friends booked afternoon tea to celebrate my birthday and what a wonderful celebration it was. The chef and team catered for my tricky allergies beautifully. They had obviously taken great care with adjusting the menu. It’s unusual for me to be able to eat everything provided - this was one of those rare events. I really appreciate it. The quality of the food was first rate, the service faultless and the atmosphere in the library was lovely. Thank you, Bowood, for helping make this birthday celebration very special.

Lovely stay for my boyfriend’s 30th. Mentioned this at the time of booking and there were some lovely little touches including a bottle left in room and dessert plate when we dined. Staff on reception were all so helpful and welcoming each time we approached and bags taken to our rooms. Found pool quietest around lunch each day. Overall found the place to be smart and clean and lovely setting to chill out and celebrate

My friend and I had a beautiful afternoon at Bowood Spa, made even better by one of the lovely ladies at the spa reception. There was a slight mix up when we arrived as there were two bookings with very similar names, but after chatting with the team it was easy to understand what had happened. The problem was sorted without fuss, and we enjoyed a lovely few hours in the spa, treatment rooms and in the suntrap courtyard. Just what the doctor ordered! Afternoon tea was served overlooking the golf course in the glorious sunshine, served with a glass of bubbles! Only downside is that it's only a half day experience and quite pricey for the size of the facilities.

We booked a spa package at this hotel, we had high expectations considering the reviews. We had booked a couples suite spa package at a cost of £500 for the night, we checked in and was given a ground floor room with a view of a brick wall, the room was very used with all the furniture and carpets stained, the bedding was ripped! The room was freezing cold and we had to call reception because the heating wasn’t working, maya one of the receptionists came to the room to rectify but then had to call maintenance. We went to the spa for our treatments and again was greeted cold, it seems they don’t use their heating to keep their guests warm! It’s a spa and your meant to feel relaxed which was completely the opposite, we had booked a couples spa package however we were diverted off in different directions for our treatments even though the room I had my treatment provided in had 2 massage beds. We then proceeded to our dinner reservation and was provided a set menu for the package we had booked, there was a £50 allowance each however nothing had a price and all sides had a supplement price. I asked the restaurant manager if there was an alternative menu but he advised it was pretty much the same and seemed reluctant to provide. We’ve been to hundreds of hotels and never once not seen a soup on the menu, considering the cold winter weather we wanted something to warm us up. I asked one of the waitresses was soup available if we paid a supplement to which she advised it was on the room service menu. We ordered this as our starter and agreed to pay any supplement, however it arrived and was bland with no flavour and no seasoning to then be advised it was from the kids menu! Seriously! The menu was very limited, we’d ordered our mains and desserts. The main arrived which was chicken and was full of gristle and disgusting, the apple pie was also terrible. We pretty much left everything that was ordered, we’d noticed that there was a tapas nibbles menu and asked if we could order from this menu paying additional to what we had already paid but the restaurant manager refused for us to have this served to our table and had to be seated in the bar which was 5 meters away from the restaurant. However the food was cooked from the same kitchen as the restaurant! Makes no sense! We had to leave the hotel to source food locally instead! We ordered breakfast to our room the following more and again more disappointment as it was cold! The restaurant was a 30 seconds walk from our room so no reason for this! This hotel doesn’t seem to be part of a chain, so the small personal touches go along way to making guest feel welcome and wanting to return. Declining extra services and products leaves a negative opinion with guests also has an affect on profits so makes no sense! We had a private lunch with a group of friends to celebrate a special occasion. The food and service was outstanding. I would like to specifically mention Rebecca who went above and beyond to make it a special event; she was friendly, professional and engaging, and an absolute asset to the hotel.

This is the 4th visit to Bowood hotel. I had a two day business trip in Bristol and my husband decided to accompany me. We made it into a 4 day break with dinner included. This is as good a 4* hotel as you will find anywhere. All the staff without exception are charming, well trained and professional at all times. Beautifully designed hotel with so many thoughtful features. We will be back!
