Pestana Fisherman Village

Pros - Our room was ready early, which was appreciated after an early flight Large double bed, which was VERY comfortable. One of the most comfortable hotel beds I have ever slept in - Shame about the pillows! Bathroom not huge, but adequate. Shower was powerful, with lots of hot water and complimentary shampoo/shower gel Very useful double USB socket and USB sockets at each side of the bed Complimentary traditional Madeiran cookies and bottled water, which was replaced daily. Fridge in room which was great for keeping drinks cold. Room was spotlessly clean throughout our stay. 1 comfy chair in room, with a foot stool, which doubled up as a seat, not ideal for 2 guests to use. Nice rooftop terrace. Pool big enough to swim, not 25 metres, but ok for a quick swim and pool towels provided in room. Small vending machine on rooftop. Plenty of sunloungers Breakfast was good, with reasonable choice, including cereal, bread, cheese, meat, fruit and cooked items. Not all breakfast items were replenished! Cons - Room 112 overloking street and restaurants. Quite noisy, especially at the weekend, with noise until the early hours of the morning, not from the restaurants but the bars further down the street. Pillows were lumpy and not very supportive Not many drawers or hangers - exposed wardrobe which I personally don't like! No hooks in bathroom for towels. Bathrobes not provided, unlike other 4-star hotels we have stayed at in Madeira. Egg menu at breakfast with an extra charge. €6 for an omelette!! One morning the pastel de natas were very overcooked and inedible, which was such a shame. Breakfast staff made no attempt to acknowledge any guests. No proper shower facilities on the rooftop terrace, only a toilet & washbasin. Hotel does not have a proper bar, but as we were checking out I noticed a limited drinks list on reception. Not mentioned at time of check-in. Pool table in lounge area, but no details of where to get the balls from and reception wasn't always manned

The hotel is right in the centre of the harbour area with ten restaurants within 100 metres of the door. Despite the buzz outside, the hotel itself is charming and peaceful. They only serve breakfast here, but that wasn't a problem. The staff were unfailingly polite and knowledgeable. Although the little rooftop pool and terrace was a bit cool in November, it would be a real bonus in the summer months. Would defo stay here again.

What a lovely hotel this is. Tucked away in the wonderful village of Câmara De Lobos, it is a very central place to stay. We had an initial issue with our room which was quickly sorted out without a problem. The team at this hotel were great on all levels from reception to breakfast to room service. The staff were only happy to help with their knowledge of places to go, buses to catch etc. they even provided scales for us to weigh our cases before departing for the airport as ours were malfunctioning. The breakfasts were very nice and we were very happy with room cleaning. We would recommend a stay at this small yet charming hotel that has everything right on the doorstep.

The hotel is located near the seafront at a busy street filled with restaurants and bars. The staff is friendly and helpful. They were able to recommend locations and places to visit at the village and in Funchal. The hotel and our room were very tidy and clean. The breakfast was average but the quality was good. The hotel has good access to local buses and for taxis nearby. Comfortable stay for a reasonable price at a beautiful location.

We stayed here recently, a family of 4, 2 rooms and thought the hotel was fantastic. The rooms were very clean and modern. We had 2 rooms overlooking the street and were concerned after reading the reviews about street/bar noise at night, but we needn’t have worried. The windows are very well sound proofed and didn’t hear a thing! The bed was very comfortable and the rain shower was perfect. The swimming pool on the roof was just perfect to cool off after sunbathing and the hotel staff very helpful. They explained how the bus’s worked to Funchal and made it very easy. My only slight criticism, is the hotel bar. It’s very limited and part of reception, so is not ideal. I feel the hotel is missing out on not having a proper bar, especially with the large communal areas, but then there are a dozen bars within a minutes walk, so is not really a problem! Can’t wait to go back.

We were extremely happy with the hotel and the location Camara de Lobos. Very good hotel for those looking for somewhere more intimate with historical character yet possessing all the necessary modern touches. Fabulous room overlooking the lush green courtyard. Large comfy bed, great modern shower, good WiFi and aircon. Staff were friendly and helpful, breakfast was very good and the small rooftop pool (much more than just a plunge pool) and sunbeds area were clean and adequate for our use. No in-house restaurant, except for breakfast, but so many good places to eat on the doorstep.
