Fantastyczny hotel! Położenie przy samym oceanie, bezpłatny shutlle bus do centrum Funchal, restauracja tematyczna ala carte, przepyszne jedzenie - urozmaicone i sporo owoców morza, all inclusive działa bez zarzutu - nie wiem która sangria lepsza czerwona czy biała. Pokoje czyściutkie funkcjonalna duża łazienka. Wieczorem animacje w tym portugalski folklor - pozdrawiam Filipa z recepcji który skradł show :) Obsługa na światowym najwyższym poziomie - Jeśli Madera to na pewno RIU. Widok z restauracji z tarasu sztos do potęgi. Niedaleko hotelu na końcu promenady można wybrać się na klif poza szlakiem.

We're just back from our first visit to Madeira & we've had a fabulous week at the Riu. The hotel is immaculate - housekeeping are amazing (shout out to Anna-Maria & Rubina who went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable!!). With the exception of one brusque (bordering on arrogant) member of the reception team, the staff were all very friendly & smiled all day long. It's definitely not a "party" hotel, but the live music & cabaret acts change every evening and are very entertaining. The buffet restaurant is exactly as you'd expect at a Riu all inclusive hotel with different roast meats every night & plenty of salad and vegetable options as well as a fabulous array of desserts & pastries, the team there ensure that your drinks are regularly topped up & that you've found anything you want. The cocktails were very good (just ask for a splash more alcohol if you want it, they're more than happy to oblige) and the serve yourself lager suited the husband very nicely. I preferred the Pina Colada from the pool bar, it's a "slushy" rather than a cocktail with ice. Madeira is steep and walking around on some of the trips is not for the faint hearted, but Funchal is flatter and it's worth taking it the regular shuttle bus to visit. Everyone works exceptionally hard to ensure you enjoy your stay & we certainly did. Obrigada Rui Madeira Xx

Riu hotels are known for great service, I've stayed in 2 (3 including this one) and I can honestly say we've been looked after on this 1 week holiday. The hotel is beautiful, quiet, friendly and by far memorable. I'll start from the beginning, the airport transfers didn't take long at all and on arrival was greeted with a large amount of guests checking in at the same time but the efficiency of staff had this done in no time. We got to the room, found it was located near the smoking seating area at the restaurant/bar which to be fair wouldn't have normally bothered us but as its sunny my allergies get the better of my asthma and with that particular night being busy with smokers we asked to change room to prevent any further complications. The next morning we received a phone call to say our new room was ready, we got shown to the room by the wonderful Daniel. The room was amazing based on the 6th floor. We was truly greatly appreciative of what the staff organised for us. Everyday we got greeted with a hello from lovely guests and staff. It's pretty much a grown up hotel with not so many young children. The rooms are well equipped with a fridge for the free water, TV, hairdryer and on request an iron and ironing board. Not the largest variety of food I've seen, but not the largest hotel I've stayed in. There's clearly enough for everyone, with better standards of food. A personal view as we eat with no cooking oils at home is that they do use lots of oil in every restaurant we visited, it must be a local way of cooking. But the standards are high in the hotel and we ate here almost every night, including the A la carte restaurant. Location wise there's not much going on, to some peoples preferences but there are some local bars and restaurants that we visited. On our 2nd to last night, we found the wine and cheese bar across the road and we've planned to go on our last night. The steak restaurant next door (on the roundabout at the top of the hill) is also brilliant. We visited Funchal via the free shuttle bus, great day and well worth it. Cable cars, gardens, etc. The drinks in the hotel is Super Boc beer and local spirits, wine, coffee etc most of which are self serve. Sunbeds are never an issue, however the ones with the great views of the ocean get snapped up very quick, lovely being able to see this of every moment. Overall its a brilliant hotel and we've fed this back via the feedback form is there's no shop in the hotel. Spar is 15 mins to the right of the hotel and there's also another small supermarket across the road, which all sell your additional wants. Thank you Riu for a brilliant week, I'll be back (and staying in other Riu hotels).

We have recently returned from a week’s stay at this hotel. Unfortunately the holiday itself was spoilt somewhat by the weather. Cloud, rain, chilly air that was with us for maybe 5 out of 7 days. The hotel is good and spotlessly clean. Apart from a couple of exceptions (anyone can have a bad day) the staff were excellent and good humoured. The Reception team in particular went that bit further to assist. Our room, on the 7th floor, was large, spacious with a comfortable bed. The bathroom was large and well appointed. However towels were thin and shower caps not supplied. Ladies go prepared! The balcony was large and would’ve provided the perfect panoramic view but for two vertical support pillars which meant you had to move your head from side to side to get a full view. A lower floor facing outwards would be a better option. Despite tea/coffee making facilities in the room, there were no teaspoons just a disposable wooden stick. (See photo). If you bought a spoon up from the restaurant and didn’t hide it, the maid would remove it! As we always book All Inclusive, we’re used to having water left in the fridge daily and be able to take a bottle of wine to the room for a quiet pre or post dinner drink; there was limited seating after dinner. Here you have to remember to collect your water from the bar who would then allow you to take bigger glasses of wine to the room but no bottles. We thought the food was average, except breakfast which was always excellent. However your place setting comprised a knife and fork and you had to remember to fetch your own milk and a spoon for cereals. After a couple of days you got used to the routine but it spoiled the feeling of being looked after. Clearly popular dishes went early evening and lunch times were disappointing with chicken wings, burgers and hotdogs being the staple. Chips were available with everything. We agree with other reviews that spirits and cocktails were disappointing. The pool area was very clean and there were plenty of sun loungers although no side tables. However the layout was very regimented with little space for moving around. With no access to a beach for overspill, we felt it was quite claustrophobic. Funchal was very interesting and well worth a visit.

The rating is low because of the weather, everyday thick cloud. This is a common weather phenomenon in Funchal known by the locals as the Funchal Helmet, which occurs every June due to hydrogeological reasons. So don't go in June to this hotel if you want sunshine as its on the lea of a hill and the cloud builds from early morning. However, the hotel itself is spotless, friendly staff, good selection of food, good evening entertainment and by the sea. Limited daytime entertainment and no onsite shop. Limited shops in the vicinity but a free courtesy bus provided into Funchal . The TUI trips are good recommend the toboggan and tropical garden but do via TUI to avoid ques and cruise ships. We did West Island full day tour which was very good.

Having visited Riu’s in Morocco and Cape Verde, we had high hopes. The place is spotless, the staff are excellent. The wifi is brilliant. No matter what time we got up in the morning, we always found a lounger. We spent most of our 2 weeks, relaxing around the pool. One pool is slightly warmer than the other, but, both are nice. It never felt overly crowded, except when it rained and everyone was inside. Thankfully it only rained on one occasion. The food was varied, but I have a bone to pick with the buffet restaurant…..literally… Too many bones, especially the duck. Both times I had some, all I got was huge chunks of bone and no meat. Aside from that, we had a good holiday. We had one trip out to Funchal, using the hotel bus. Oh, and some of the towels need replacing. All I kept getting were threadbare ones.

Lovely hotel one of the most cleanest hotels we have stayed in Staff from reception to Dining Room and bars so friendly and very helpful So top marks to all of the Team.

Excellent week away. Very peaceful, staff, hotel and service impeccable. Weather couldn’t have been better. Around 15 minutes drive to Funchal. Pretty quiet location with little outside the hotel but nice walks. Would definitely go back.
