Selectum Family Resort Varadero

I’ve been to Cuba more times than I can count, and this resort is definitely one of the best I’ve been to. The food was actually amazing – which can be hit or miss in Cuba. We had steak, lobster, chicken, fresh-cooked pasta, and a bunch of other solid options every day. No complaints there at all. The Jazz Bar was our favourite spot. Huge shoutout to Alex and Enrique – they made the BEST drinks and really made our vacation memorable. Super friendly and fun guys. The swim-up bar was nice, but kind of limited. No slushy drinks, which was a bit of a bummer in that heat. Entertainment wasn’t great either – they had water polo and a volleyball net set up, but I didn’t see anyone actually using it. That said, the foam party was wild and definitely a highlight. Wasn’t a big fan of the main lobby bar setup – felt kind of awkward or just not well laid out. On the plus side, it’s the first drop-off from the airport, so you get to start your vacation a bit sooner than others! Also worth mentioning – plenty of toilet seats and toilet paper, which shouldn’t have to be a selling point, but here we are. 😂 Overall I’d give it a solid 8/10 and would definitely return.

Just returned from a week vacation at Selectum. What we most enjoyed - The resort is new and modern. - Stunning views. We had and ocean view room and we stayed on the forth floor. Both day and night views were stunning. - Pools. Even though we are not pool people we enjoyed the pools. The layout of the pools are beautiful and pools are very clean. - Food: Snack bar has great hamburgers and hot dogs with fries plus other options we didn’t try. Restaurants are beautiful and food was good. They had red and white wine at all restaurants. No shortage of food in the buffet and plenty of choices salads fruits fish and seafood beef pork pasta and more traditional dishes like rice beens pumpkin plantain etc. - Water and water pressure: Water pressure in the bathroom was excellent the best we ever had in Cuba and we had hot water at all times . - Toilet paper. No shortage of toilet paper in the room and in the public washrooms throughout the resort. - Staff friendliness. Staff were friendly and attentive specially front desk and a la carte restaurants . Dennis at the Bar was great too. - Night entertainment Jazz Bar had DJ after night entertainment and music was great. - Mosquitoes. We had no issues with mosquitoes! That was the first time ever. Could be that Varadero does not have issues with mosquitoes as the cayos do. - The Canadian party was much better than what we expected. We were glad we attended. It happens on Thursdays at the Marina in Varadero and a bus pick you up at the hotel and brings you back. Ask from desk. What we missed or we did not enjoy as much: - Beach; Was very rocky but as we did our research before we had water shoes so if you like to be at the beach like we do don’t forget to bring water shoes. If you walk further to the hotel beside they have an area with no rocks . Sand is not as white as other beaches in Cuba and beach is fairly small. - Cleanness of the room could improve. Room was nice decorations made with towels were left in our bed daily and even though that was very nice we would appreciate the floor to be sweep daily and shower area to be cleaned as well ( not sure if cleaning products are an issue that could be the reason). - Entertaining staff looked fairly young they would announce activities by the pool and not do the activity or do the bare minimum . One day one of the entertainment managers was at the pool and he did a fantastic job with the activities and a lot of people participated. No activities at all at the beach it would be nice if they had something in the morning at the beach. Resort has no theatre and all night shows are near the pool area in an open area so if it is raining I am. It sure what happens . For such a beautiful and modern resort I thought they would have a theatre. The hotel is very close to the airport only a 15min ride but you need a taxi to get to Varadero. If I had to give my honest rating, I would give it a 7/10 for the following reasons: 1. best quality of staff and customer service, specifically Silvia, Amanda, and Liennys at the buffet. Every day that we were there, they made the experience memorable and personalized. I would only eat at the buffet to for their service. 2. The coffee at the lobby bar was great. I highly recommend you go here in the morning and for a night cap. 3. There could be more variety at all the restaurants especially for people with dietary restrictions (vegetarians, people who only eat chicken

I took my trip to Varadero with my girlfriend and I had a blast. At the beach bar, Lester and Katryna took care of us every day. Enrique and Yaimara took care of us at the pool bar. They were very informative, kind and provided a great overall atmosphere. I would return specifically for the amazing quality of service.

i must say i enjoyed my stay. it was a very clean and nice resort. Staff was always looking to help out, i never heard the word no/we can't while i stayed there. Yadir Sanchez (bellhop) this guy was always there when you needed something. Thanks Yadir!! front desk also was very helpful (unfortunately i didnt get there names). Silvia and her partner at the lobby bar were the greatest, these two were so much fun!! The beach does need work however, i love the hanging out on the beach and swimming in the ocean but its not the greatest here. I am sure they have plans to fix it. Two thumbs up.. oh ya, and its like 15 mins from the airport..

Everything in the hotel is excellent: it is new, the animators are great (especially Jenifer - she really loves the people, she takes care about you every minute and make you feel like at home), evening shows are wonderful, the staff is very polite and kind; it is great that the beach has doctors and securities. The food in the hotel is absolutely delicious, fresh, healthy and organic. The hotel has a great chef from Turkey - Chef Gökhan Gökalp! You will have a lot of things to do in the hotel! Fishing is wonderful near the hotel. The tennis courts in the hotel are great! I recommend this hotel with all my heart! You will really enjoy your holiday here!
