When here several years ago, lodging was quite expensive. Carlsbad is still more expensive than it warrants. A remnant of the continuing oil/gas boom that it has experienced over the last decade. I rebel at the prices. As usual, wanted to stay somewhere ‘fun’. Not much available. Looking around, I found Steven’s Inn. While teaching here, we’d pass the Stevens Inn. It was one of the nicer places. Driving into it, Stevens Inn is much bigger than I thought and remember. It has a restaurant and lounge as well. On the phone I was served by a very nice attendant who said he’d give us a room upgrade. Hopefully, it’s nice. Well, it is. We have an Executive King Suite (fancy name, huh?). And it’s a real suite. First off, the most important, it has a nice bedroom with a king bed, and all the rest (dresser, two night stands). The other room is big with a couch and easy chair a credenza and writing desk. Turn around and there’s a kitchenette with a microwave, mini refrigerator, full range and small sink (but no utensils whatsoever). It’s all quite clean and well maintained. Glad we stayed here.
