American Inn Cedar Rapids South

My wife and I stayed 1 night, arriving before 2PM to the manager who checked my ID for our prepay, then presented the key cards with the wifi. Room #109 was carpeted, clean and spacious with a very comfortable king, desk & chair, couch with table, closet bar, medium sized refrigerator, micro, coffee machine and medium sized TV with hotel & TV guide(Bloomberg, CNBC, CNN, ESPN, HGTV, Des Moines networks & 50+ channels). A large window looked over the parking lot to Burger King. The bathroom had a tub/shower with quick hot water, fan but minimal supplies. Good secure wifi, ample outlets, good lighting and quiet under window AC/heat. Indoor pool was closed. The 6AM breakfast was minimal: OJ, fruit, raisin bran and fruit loops, premium yogurt, waffle, packaged sweet, muffin and undrinkable coffee. Overall, we had a quiet night’s sleep.

We booked hotels here for a family reunion at a group rate of $53 for twelve rooms. About a month before our stay, we called to make sure our reservation was in order only to find out that the hotel had only booked one room for the group rate of $53. Although the hotel had 11 more rooms available, the head manager (who was not the person I booked the rooms with) told me he would honor the rate of $53 for one room only but we would have to pay $89.00 for the rest of the rooms, $36 more than I agreed! The manager discussed the situation with the employee who I booked the rooms with and told me that that employee had forgotten to put in the rest of the rooms into the computer. Finding out that it was his own employees mistake you would think he would acknowledging that I had a contract with him for 12 rooms at a rate of $53 but he was still unwilling to uphold that contract. Incompetent business practice.

When we arrived at the Economy Inn and Suites, the front desk attendent had visitors. She and her guests were sitting in the lobby area and the gentleman visiting with her was smoking! The lobby was clearly marked with a NO SMOKING sign. She acted a little sheepish but got us checked in and we went to our room. We found a dirty bathroom, a hand towel with dry toothpaste and lipstick, scum around the faucets of the sink, mold on the shower curtain, dirt on the toilet tank, and dirt on the shower walls, The floor in the bathroom was not clean and the carpet in the room had not been vaccummed for a long time. The furniture was dusty. We were tired and figured the gal at the front desk would not have an ear for our complaints since she allowed smoking in the non-smoking lobby, so decided to just let the person at the front desk know in the morning that the room was not acceptable. Upon crawling into bed we found that there was sand in the sheets, the pillows were old and stinky, and the bed actually sloped toward the floor on one side. I told the person at the front desk the next day and he simply said he was sorry. I was very disappointed with our stay. The place needs some NEW staff and some MAJOR renovations. I will never wait until morning to complain again!

Very comfortable Motel the Internet is extremely reliable and fast ,very professional service ,indoor pool By far the best value in all of Cedar Rapids very close proximity to major restaurants convenience store right across the street very good security. Is basically the same motel but not as expensive as major chains, you should definitely check this motel out before going elsewhere the beds are so comfortable me and my roommate slept the best we have in a long time

WARNING! DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL! When I arrived, the pool, fitness center, and internet were all out of order. They checked me into room 105 - DO NOT STAY IN ROOM 105 - when standing outside of the room I could smell a horrible stench. When I went into the room, it smelled like cat urine. I couldn't stay there. I went to the front desk and they immediately assigned me another room. Jennie, the GM was nice and comped one night of my stay. The nice man at the front desk began to say the man who stayed in the room before me had some problems. I didn't want to know. Once in the new room, before getting into bed I noticed a dried blood stain on the bed sheets. Jennie came in and changed the sheets herself and apologized but that was all. The next day when trying to take a shower, it took 10 minutes before any warm, not hot, just warm water would show up. When telling Jennie about the lack of hot water in my room, she stated she just sent the gal standing next to her to check my room for hot water. How could this gal have checked my room when I just left my room and no one had gone into it? This gal had been standing next to Jennie the whole time. By this time, I decided to grab my bags and check out. Jennie stated since we booked the room through a third-party booking site we would have to get the credit and dispute anything else with them. Again, DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL!

Staying at the American Inn Hotel was like staying with family. The staff was very friendly and attentive to us. The room was spotlessly clean, fresh and new, the environment quiet, and we also had a great breakfast before leaving in the morning. We will definitely stay here again. We requested a pick-up at the CR airport and they had enough staff on duty that someone picked us up. We think this is a great place.

Our ground floor room had everything we needed being equipped with all the regular amenities. Clean and comfortable. Breakfast, although well-presented was still carbo-load and lacking. No protein and few choices. I would certainly recommend this property as a near-perfect, one night stop-over AND a great value. Not a resort but, everything you need.

Rolled in late but we had a friendly welome and service. The king room was nicely renovated which included a couch and very clean and provided plenty of space. The continental breakfast was just average with standard options. Definitely worth the $.
