The Costa Verde Scilliy hotel certainly boasts a beautiful façade and stunning aesthetics, making for a picturesque setting. However, its remote location might be a drawback if you're looking to explore. It's also a 2hr 45min bus transfer from Catania airport. The hotel offers a bus service to Cefalù, which is a must-see town. The shuttle bus will cost you around 4 euros per person and must be purchased from the hotel. The last bus finishes around 6:20 pm from the town, but if you miss the bus, a taxi will bring you back for 25 euros. The beach is pebbly, so I do recommend beach shoes, especially if you have children. You will need to use the free bus the hotel offers you. One of the most disappointing aspects appears to be the "all-inclusive" package (you will get an A4 paper sheet of what drinks are included), which, according to experiences, falls short of expectations. You have to pay if you'd like a bottle of water. It'll cost you 2.50 euros for 1 litre and can only be purchased from the main bar. You will have to top up with euros on your hotel band, and this has to be used to purchase drinks at the aqua park and also the other restaurants if you're wanting a drink other than water, white or red wine, which is included in the all-inclusive package. At lunch and dinner in the main restaurant, you also only have the choice of water, white or red wine. It would have been nice if you could have a soft drink or a beer. Our room, a superior room with a sea view, although very clean, had a beautiful sunset from our balcony. However, the room was smaller than expected. The air conditioning is very basic and not instant as in most hotels. There is very little air conditioning throughout the hotel. I did read that an iron was included, but when we got there, no irons were allowed in the rooms because of a fire that must have happened before our stay. Our second disappointment was how rude a few members of staff were, especially from the main bar staff who also covered the pool bar at times. This made us feel very unwelcome, and could have spoilt the holiday if we let it! We weren't the only guests that had noticed, as there were at least a few other families we spoke to who said the same! Not sure if those staff in particular don't like the English? Power cuts! This happened every evening. We did mention this to reception, and the response was, "Yes, they're aware there's a problem." Not to whinge, but another annoyance was the beach towel refundable deposit of 22 euros each, which would be very pricey if you have a family. Food! It definitely does not cater for the English. We did enjoy the food and I must give a little shout out to the pastry chef who loved creating a gluten-free dessert for me. A BIG THANK YOU goes to you.
