Bike and walking trails are aplenty in this area. And just a hop skip and a jump from downtown Park Rapids, Minnesota. Located very close to Itasca State Park (home of the Mississippi Headwaters!), Paul Bunyan State Forest, Leech Lake, countless biking and hiking trails and endless miles of shoreline if you want to head out to some other nearby lakes. This is quite a beautiful area of the state ANY time of year. Get out and explore the area or stay in the comfort and coziness of the lake cabin playing games, cooking, looking out at/playing in the lake or stargazing on a dark night. Boat, fish, swim or hike in the summer or snowshoe, ski or snowmobile in the winter. So many possibilities for a memorable vacation!Two kayaks and a paddleboat are available on the property for guests to use, free of charge. There is also a public access on the lake for people who bring their own boat. Keep in mind that lake levels may be low during drought seasons, so it may be difficult to get boats in and out of the water in these circumstances. Fortunately there are many more lakes in the area with public access that should be able to accommodate entry, depending on the severity of the drought. Our pontoon from Park Rapids Boat Rental was fantastic and we could tie up at the dock. We went fishing and tubing every day. The girls loved playing in the fresh sand at the beach. It was the perfect launching pad for our kayaks. We paddled through the channels and had great bonfires. The firewood you provided was dry and lit easily. Newly remodeled 3 bedroom 2 bath cabin on Portage Lake near Park Rapids, Minnesota. New kitchen and all new flooring in May/June of 2021. Both bathrooms have been remodeled as well. This 2100 square foot cabin has an open floor plan in the main area, with bar seating and a large farmhouse table, sofa seating area, and full size kitchen. There is a massive 1200 sq foot 3 season porch with lots of room for indoor activities. There is a washer and dryer for renter use, bedding, towels, linens, soaps, and basic kitchen tools stocked. The kitchen has a full size fridge/freezer, oven, dishwasher, air fryer, toaster, coffee pot, pots, pans, dishes/silverware, drinkware, towels, and soap. The deck has a propane grill. There is a fire pit, dock, and sand beach area. There are a few games, puzzles, books, and toys in the cabin and fishing poles in the porch. The town of Park Rapids offers shopping, coffee shops, cafes and restaurants. Itasca State Park is located within a 20 minute drive and offers biking, hiking and an on site restaurant.
