Maison Lia, ex Pasteur

2nd visit here. One night stop over on way down to Alps. Was Sunday eve out of season so was quiet. Note there is limited restaurant availability in Chalons on Sunday eve. Like last time everything at hotel was good. We had superior room in main building which has coffee maker, dressing gowns and so forth. Parking is secure / gated and worth paying for. Breakfast selection was good and again worth paying for. Hotel staff friendly and helpful and sorted us out with phone charger. Will stay here again.

Second time I’ve stayed there en route from a holiday home. Approximately a 3 hour drive to Le Shuttle/Eurotunnel terminal. Really lovely small hotel, totally independent and not part of a large chain. Had a room directly off the main courtyard as I was staying with my two older labradors who don’t particularly like stairs or lifts. Staff are super friendly. Parking is available on site for a small charge (need to book in advance) and your parking space will be marked with your name. Main gates are locked during late evening meaning that it’s totally secure, including the car park, but guests are given an access code to re-enter if you’re heading out for dinner. Some fantastic but reasonably priced restaurants within a 5 minute walk of the hotel but the hotel itself is in a lovely quiet road so there’s no noise at all from traffic or late night passers by. Room has everything I needed for a one night stay and breakfast is self service/buffet style with a good range of food to choose from. If staying with dogs or if you fancy a stroll, there’s a gorgeous, decent sized park a very short walk away from the hotel. Would highly recommend and will definitely be staying there again. Early booking needed to take advantage of lower prices.

We were looking for a town centre location and found it. This hotel is situated in a relatively quiet back street and although the one way system makes access tricky the first time, it is easy enough afterwards. Our twin room was small (only the basic rooms come with twin beds) but spotless and comfortable. Our friends double superior rooms were larger and with a useful sitting area. All had good curtains or shutters and working air con. There is a good lift to the upper floors. There is no restaurant but there is a brasserie right next door and the hotel buffet breakfast was first class. Importantly this hotel has good secure parking. OK, it is 16eu per night but is worth every penny. Staff were all very friendly and helpful and we would have no hesitation n staying here again.

Just right. Very friendly welcome and very well appointed and spacious room. Hotel team make that extra effort that makes the stay particularly enjoyable eg name left above parking space, hotel room service menu on clothes peg in room, really nice toiletries and towels in bathroom. Very attentive staff.

Not a cheap option but felt like good value and was a very nice stop over in Chalons. Large room, air con and v well equipped with coffee machine, dressing gowns, decent toiletries - we had 201 which I think was a deluxe? Secure parking in gated hotel court yard. Location 5 min walk from town centre. Reception super helpful. Buffet breakfast very good. Only regret was that we couldn’t go to Le Petit Pasteur Restaurant next door as closed on Sundays. Note you will need to pre book this. Chalon itself has got interesting church, cathedral and public gardens and we spent a couple of hours happily wandering round.

The hotel policy is to collect payment for the room one day before arrival. In our case a holding deposit equal to the full cost of the room was taken on arrival. On checkout the hotel charged our card with the cost of the room again together with breakfasts and parking. We were assured that the holding deposit had been released. Unfortunately this was not true and in spite of writing to the hotel thereafter they simply denied it. It took exactly 30 days to get our money back via the UK banking system. In addition to this financial challenge we had difficulty driving our of the private car park. Although the access was good they squeezed so many more cars in after our arrival that some drivers had to reverse out onto the road. Some even drove over the rose beds on leaving. All for a €15 fee. We happen to experience a power cut between 6 am and 7:30 am. We are sure that this could not be helped. However no information was forthcoming and we simply waited in our room for the duration. The overnight stay was not cheap. The reception would simply repeat that the holding deposit was hotel policy. Not the best experience and a place to avoid as far as we are concerned.
