The Kings Arms

Lovely pub downstairs. With restaurant and large outdoor area. Our room was a good size and a large modern en-suite. The breakfast was very good. We had a large full English.

We really enjoyed our stay (3 nights) at the Barn in the gardens of this hotel. The location of the hotel is perfect, with glorious hillside/meadow views on both sides. It is situated in a village with a village shop next door (good for produce, well selected groceries and beverages, coffees and locally made cakes (including gluten free). We will use this as a base for a holiday but also for short stays - it is conveniently located near picturesque local towns that merit visiting but we enjoyed knowing that we could retreat to the hotel for relaxation at the end of each day. There were four circular walking routes in the vicinity (leaflets available at the bar) but we didn't have a chance to explore them this time. The Hotel is charming with nicely decorated and air rooms. The Barn has its own private decked area with ample chairs to relax in. The Barn is spacious and has a well equipped and large kitchen. The bar and restaurant area (indoors) are bright and welcoming - and so are the staff and owners, who were happy to help in any way. There is a small snug to relax in (log burner for the cooler months) and a large grassed garden with views over a meadow and valley and lots of seating (both under cover and without cover). The menu is varied and the food of good quality (we enjoyed breakfast and dinner). We consider this a real find and a great place to relax.

I called in at 9.45 pm earlier this week to be simply turned away. No meet and greet , no good evening , no hello how are you , just told by the person behind the bar "we are closed ". I had already checked their website which quite clearly stated open until 11.00 pm. Hospitality at it's worse.

I’m not one to usually leave reviews on places however I must say our first visit to The kings Arms on Thursday was great. We are new to Sherborne and had been recommended here by a friend, we were greeted with smiles and a lovely welcome. I can’t for the life of me remember the young girls name but she was great. she recommended the steak and beef burger to us and it was one of the best dishes me and my wife have had for a long time. Hands off the chefs they did an amazing job. Overall our experience was 11/10 and certainly will be back.

The menu and the actual cost of the dish do not add up we were charged an extra £2 for dishes. I hope this is amended soon as a pensioner I do run on a tight budget. When this was pointed out to staff they did not attempt to amend this. The food was very good .

Food was good but unfortunately the service was very disappointing. There was broken glass on our table when we arrived, our order kept having items missing, we asked for coke zero but were given diet cokes and when we asked to change, we were told it was coke zero to then be told actually they don’t have coke zero even though it was on the menu. Took ages for us to get the bill - when we eventually paid, they tried to overcharge us. Won’t be returning.

I attended for a meal with my partner and friend. The poor attitude and professionalism from the so called manger was very poor he was rude to us. He was swearing loudly behind the bar for us to hear extremely patronising to the younger staff. I’m very disappointed for our visit the food was amazing but we would not return while he is present. Maybe he needs some management training. I have managed pubs and restaurants for 10 plus years and would never dream of acting this way! I think the owners should reevaluate the staff they employ.. lovely location lovely pub and food! Remove the male “bar manager” and it will be a place to be!

Very lovely stay at Kings Arms. The staff is welcoming and the service was very good. The house, we stayed at, was clean spacious and relaxing with nice views. We ate there in the evening and then had a breakfast the next morning. Tasty meal with a beautiful views from the restaurant. Thank you, Tony, we enjoyed our stay x
