Rothley Court Hotel by Greene King Inns

We arrived mid-afternoon on a Saturday. We remarked on how magnificent the building looked and how wonderful it must have been to live here in its heyday. Upon entering reception, we rang the bell, as instructed on the sign. We waited ten minutes and rang the bell again. A young man entered, and we informed him that we'd like to check in. He couldn't help us, but he'd send in the manager. After a further five minutes, the manager arrived and informed us that we should have come through to the bar, as that's where all the staff were because of a wedding. Well, we would have if the sign had informed us of this fact. But it said, "Wait here." We were then told our room number and that it was in a separate building. After stepping outside, we saw there were a number of buildings, so we returned to clarify which one. The exasperated manager told again with more detail and then whispered to her colleague that she couldn't believe these people couldn't find their room! Yes, we heard you, Laura. We may be old, we may be stupid, we may be both. But you're in the hospitality industry. Try to be hospitable. We did find our room, and although basic, it was warm and clean. However, there is a large gap under the main door. Aside from letting in, and out, noise and voices etc., it could also be a fire risk. We returned to the main bar, and I tried ordering a bottle of wine. After being informed many times that my choice wasn't available, I asked just what was available, and I'd choose that. He apologised and explained they had a wedding that day. A poor excuse, as I'm fairly confident that the wedding won't have been booked the day before. There had been plenty of opportunity to stock up. The outside area was littered with glasses, cups, and crisp packets. After forty minutes, the glasses were cleared, but the cups and debris remained. We went inside and booked dinner for 7.30. We arrived at the restaurant at 7.25 and were shown to our table. The menus were brought to us, we made our choice, and the food was brought to us in good time. The food itself was excellent. We enjoyed our starters and main course and then asked if we'd like to see the dessert menu, which we did. We waited, and nothing happened. We were then approached by a different waiter who informed us that if we'd like a dessert, to order soon as the kitchen closes at 9.00 - in a hotel! We informed them that we'd love to order, but after waiting fifteen minutes, we still had no menus! They were quickly brought over, and we made our choice and enjoyed our dessert. We returned to the main bar to enjoy a quiet drink. However, a decision was made to close the wedding bar in the function room. The wedding guests then stumbled into the main bar. As you can imagine, it was quite raucous! Of course, we have been to weddings and being part of that raucous group when you know everyone is fun. When you're trying to enjoy a quiet drink, less so. Visited for 1 night prior to moving on for a golf weekend. On arrival, checked in, very quickly, we were given 2 rooms in a block, I myself for the location and the age would have like a room in the manor itself, but room had what we needed for 1 night. Just left the case in the room , went and got a drink, and sat outside in the garden, loverly and peaceful, and drinks not bad prices, but I know it's not the staffs fault, blackcurrant and water £2.60, water is free, so really a bit steep, but your at a hotel, Seems all non alcohol drinks are expensive, but that's all public houses and hotels. We had an evening meal, food was fantastic, reasonable prices and all in all great evening. Morning, we checked out, did not try breakfast, but looked fine from the outside. All in all, yes, I stop again, Staff is very friendly, and some locals are very knowledgeable about the manor and its surroundings, If in the area, have a look, but remember, the building itself is over 200 years old, so very comfortable and competitive, Thank you everyone.

We stayed in the annex. My husband and I were very disappointed with the standard of our accommodation. It was dark, the window was weak and in a poor state, the tiles over the bath still had grouting on the face of them. The room was hot and stuffy and they hadn't even supplied us with a room fan. The main building was lovely, as was the food. The grounds: It's a shame they haven't cleared the steps that lead down to the stream. They could also do with removing the dead trees and scrub in the wooded area as apart from being a nuisance it is also a fire risk. There is an old derelict and overgrown woodland bench with a plaque dedicated to an 18 year old girl who died in 1972. Why haven't they maintained it !? So sad.

The hotel is in a good location with pleasant surroundings. The room we stayed was the Court Mews. If you have difficulty with stairs request a downstairs room. On first impressions the room was adequate although a little “travel lodge” which wasn’t what was expecting. The housekeeping needs to seriously up their game though. After a quick look around I discovered cobwebs hanging from the ceiling, dirty taps on the cracked sink, mould on the tiles and grout around the bath,broken wall tiles, stained carpet, litter from the previous occupant and the false eyelashes on the bathroom shelf was a nice touch. Food was good with breakfast of reasonable size but quite expensive. Probably could have got the same in town at a fraction of the cost. Would I stay again? Probably if I couldn’t find a Travel Lodge.

Stayed in the courtyard mews and regretted that a little when we got there as those rooms were a little travelodge and a shame when you look at the main building. Totally our choice though, perhaps when they are quiet as they were they should think about free upgrades. The room was clean but dated and missed some opportunities to charm but the bed was comfortable. There was room for a king size bed so perhaps that could come in the refurb. The TV was tiny which is fine by me but not hubby.. The bathroom had a bath and overhead shower. Hot water plentiful but you didn’t need to add cold water so watch out for that. The location was stunning and parking plentiful. Great couple of nights sleep as so tranquil. The benefit to the mews was that you could come and go as you pleased without disturbing anyone. Staff were really friendly and breakfast was wonderful. Continental and cooked available and some lovely choices.

Popped in for Sunday lunch with great friends. The whole experience was amazing... Fabulous menu with excellent quality produce. All freshly cooked. All served by Laura who was very bubbley & attentive, Would highly recommend. We will return.

Morgan on the bar was very conversational and helpful, helping me get on to the wifi and recommending what to eat. Wait times were surprisingly fast considering the wedding we’re having there meal upstairs. 10/10 experience will definitely be returning!

Attended a wedding at this hotel, the staff were all lovely and very helpful, especially the manager Laura. The firework display was out of this world! Food and drinks excellent as well, would highly recommend! Thank you to everyone on the team :)

Attended for a wedding, Venue is very nice . Food ok Staff very poor, to the point of being rude. Started to try to close the bar and seating areas well before wedding finish time, and actually asked the bride if they wanted to finish early. Clearly the staff wanted to go home early, was incredibly disappointing to ask the Bride this question Would avoid booking your wedding here
