I've stayed at several Hampton Inns in a few states and think it is a very good Hilton brand. But this location disappointed me, and I think there are better values nearby. On the plus side, the location in the Loop is fantastic - very convenient to Riverwalk, the CTA, the Art Institute of Chicago, Millennium Park, and lots of good dining. The desk staff was very friendly. But on the downside . . . First, we had to wait around for about an hour in a warm lobby to check-in because their internet was not working - bad start. Then the little plastic keys for our room worked only half the time. I strongly recommend you get the Hilton App and electronic key on your smart phone, which solved the problem. The room itself was well air conditioned, but pretty small and uncomfortable. We booked a "King Bed + fold out sofa" for a third adult guest. Don't do that. Get at least two double beds (or another room). The fold-out sofa took almost the entire width of our room and nearly blocked access to the bathroom and room door. We had to press against the wall to shimmy by and wondered if this would be a fire hazard in case of an emergency. For just two people, the sofa would be a nice option, but this room (404 and those like it) should not be rented to 3 guests. Finally, like a lot of old buildings probably, the sound-proofing was not good. Aside from hearing blaring sirens occasionally go by, every night around 3 a.m. a truck came to empty multiple dumpsters in an alley on the right side of the building (as you face the front) impacting at least rooms 402-410. It sounded like a thunder storm and woke me up every night. Stay in the front of the building or on the side of the elevators if possible, or much higher up than the 4th floor. The Hilton Garden Inn next door also would be more distant from the dumpsters. The cost per night for this Hampton Inn is probably one of the lesser expensive options in this nice area of downtown Chicago, especially if you factor in the breakfast buffet which comes with the room. But I checked some other options nearby (we were thinking of leaving) and, for example, the cost per night at the Royal Sonesta around the corner was competitively priced and seemed nicer (Hoyt's restaurant and bar in that hotel was great). So I recommend you shop around for a better overall value in the area, see what the reviews say about sound-proofing in that property, and don't reflexively go for the lower cost or free breakfast option. Or bring ear plugs.
