Holiday Inn Express & Suites Childress

Just a road trip rest stop this time. I saw a lot of bad or disappointing reviews for this location that caused us some concerns when booking. Our visit was very good. The check in receptionist when we arrived close to 8pm on Friday Aug. 23, 2024, was just Great. She was friendly, welcoming and pleasant to deal with. The room was clean and had all the items you would expect to be furnished. The only problem we had during our visit was a cold shower. We later learned that a water pipe had broken and was repaired as soon as possible. We initially thought it was an excess demand issue due to all the firefighters that were staying at the hotel and arriving around the same time. Things like this happen from time to time. If you are a homeowner you can understand that there are things the hotel can't control. If the issue had gone on for over a day, I would have expected compensation. But they took care of the issue as soon as they learned about it, even working at night. That's all they can really do. Our check out receptionist at 640am Saturday was just as pleasant and informative as the young lady that checked us in. Breakfast was exactly fine and exactly what we have come to expect from staying at many other HI Express locations. We will be returning to this hotel int he future!

We stayed at 3 different places on our vacation when traveling to, at our destination, and traveling home. This was the best hotel we stayed at. The room was very clean. The bed was so comfortable. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was very good. One downfall was how hard and loud the door closed. We came in late at night and was scared we were waking people up.

First of all, your GPS might be confused like ours was. Their driveway leads to the Walmart parking lot. If your GPS takes you to Walmart, just look for their sign. The hotel was still going through renovations, so be aware of that. It was mostly clean. Everyone was courteous. The breakfast was excellent with many more options than other places. The employees were quickly refilling empty things. Unexpectedly, our room had a view of the adjacent prairie/field, and we saw lots of deer, so be on deer watch while eating breakfast, etc.

Very nice hotel. Large rooms and very comfortable. No complaints at all. Nice staff and good decent breakfast. Holey moley the cinnamon rolls! Delicious! $50 For two dogs which was a nice price. Refrigerator and microwave and nice comfortable couch too

This hotel was dark with very little lighting, a tiny TV and hardly any window coverings. The cheap building material were evident with a bathroom door that looked like it belonged in a well worn mobile home. What a crummy place ! I hope their remodeling does them some good.

NOT Clean. Dirty carpet, bathroom floor and hair in the tub. Disgusting red looking stain on curtains and bed skirt. Paper thin towels. After a long drive and arriving late we were too tired to try and find another hotel so we stayed. Additionally, we got a wake up call we did t ask for at 6 am.

The front clerk was a young guy who seemed he didn't want to be there. Hotel is in need of a remodel, at $144 we were disappointed. Won't stay there again. My wife said it looked like an old motel 6 inside.Only+ was a pretty good breakfast.

Check in by James was efficient & handled professionally. Worried about what our room would be like because of the obvious renovations underway, the lobby was empty & there were huge piles of rolled carpet both outside the door & in the lobby. But our room was great. Most of it had been renovated all ready. House phone wasn't working, but carpet was replaced & walls were painted. Furniture was new - even a new Kuerig coffee maker. The king bed was huge & the pillows big & fluffy (all 4 of them). The shower was great & insulation was good - heard no hall noises at all. The included breakfast was excellent - tons of choices, well laid out, lots of seating, & even hot cinnamon rolls!!!! Only negative was the slow internet. Would definitely recommend this hotel. Note that the entry is through the Walmart parking lot. Odd, but made filling up with gas the next morning very handy.

Early April 2022 - no water on at least 3 nights, most recently last night (Tuesday). So far attempted repairs have included baling wire and 2x4s, and poorly applied hose clamps. Owner (who is not local) choosing to not have the break correctly repaired until the coming weekend. Elevator out of service more than it's working. Carpet missing all over the hotel. Difficult to get room amenities restocked, and hotel won't clean rooms until after checkout unless begged to do so by guests. Fire alarm went off multiple times when there wasn't a fire several nights ago. Of course, moot point since there's also no working fire sprinkler system when there's no working water. My company has had a crew staying here since February, and while the lack of water only started in the past 7 days, other issues with cleanliness and challenges in getting coffee, towels, rooms serviced, etc. have been persistent. On checking in last Sunday my room had unemptied trash, and the bathroom counter was not entirely clean. Hotels have been training guests to settle for lower standards since the pandemic, but this one is truly taking advantage of the situation.
