Selana Suites

Firstly I will say that this hotel has incredible views and a nice pool. You can spend hours admiring the view. It’s pretty quiet so has a relaxing and tranquil feel. The property and rooms were clean throughout. Staff were fine and the breakfast was satisfactory. Having said that, we were quite disappointed with our stay. As context, we booked and prepaid many months in advance at a rate of €270 per night in mid September. The reviews of the property are very strong and it bills itself as 4 stars. We travel to different islands in Greece every year and generally stay in 4-5 star hotels. While the views here certainly are 5 star, everything else is 3 star at most. At this price point I expect high standards. What we got was a basic room which had the feel of a budget chain hotel and lacked privacy. While the room size and air conditioning were fine, that’s where the positives end. Critically, the bed was the most uncomfortable bed I’ve slept on in years - rock hard with springs sticking into your back. We woke up sore every day and consequently felt tired the entire stay. Walls were thin so you also hear your neighbours talking. Apart from the pool, the hotel has no facilities. You absolutely need a car to stay as there are no good restaurants within walking distance, and no shops or other amenities. At any hotel (even a budget one) in Greece you’re generally treated to a bottle of water on arrival. That wasn’t the case at Selana. There are no shops around within walking distance so if you’re thirsty be prepared to buy water from them immediately. I don’t really care about the price so much as the message it sends - pay a high price for your room, but they can’t even gift you 1 bottle of water that costs them almost nothing. Even weirder considering how hospitable Greek hotels generally are, this just feel stingy. Do you want Wi-Fi? You can almost forget about it. This is the worst hotel Wi-Fi I’ve had in over a decade and reminds me of the dial up speeds of 1997 internet. Attempting to watch a 10 second Instagram story takes several minutes with buffering, and loading Google maps the same. We asked whether something was wrong with the internet and were told it was just like that on the island. Funnily enough we tried the Wi-Fi at a restaurant at the beach 1km away and speeds were what you’d get in any large city in the world, so clearly the island does have normal internet service (as do 4 nearby island we also visited). Thank goodness I didn’t have to attend to any work commitments during my stay - I’d be in serious trouble if I was asked to attend a zoom call as there’s no way this would be possible. This is unacceptable in this day and age. In summary - not a terrible hotel, and the views are magnificent. We just felt the price/quality ratio was very poor and it really made out entire stay in Sifnos rather disappointing.

Beautiful location, lovely room, great experience.

We loved staying at Selana Suites in Sifnos ! The hotel is very private and the staff is very attentive. The swimming pool overlooking the monastery is definitely the highlight! Breakfast is excellent. The bedrooms are comfortable. Look no further ! We definitely recommend staying here and would return in a heartbeat !

My friend and I came to sifnos for a much needed girls get away. The staff at selana welcomed us with open arms and much kindness. Throughout our entire stay they made sure everything was perfect. They paid such great attention to detail and cleanliness, tidying our rooms immediately every morning when we went down to breakfast so that it would be ready for when we finished. The views from the hotel were stunning! And the pool was the perfect refreshing temperature. l am looking forward to going back at another point with my family. Thanks you selana!

This place is amazing! The staff is so lovely and helpful, the rooms are very spacious, the breakfast is delicious, and the pool is stunning. I would highly recommend this place for your visit to Sifnos. We will be back!

My friend and I needed to spend a few days in a place offering calm and quiet surrounded by extraordinary natural beauty. When we stood on the balcony of our room and looked down the hill with its olive trees, to the white walls of the monastery at Chrisopighi and the many shades of blue of the Aegean, we knew we’d found perfection. The hospitality is as wonderful as the scenery. We were treated with lovely warmth by Irene and her entire staff who made us feel like family. The freshly prepared breakfast offers all the good things one hopes for (excellent coffee!). The home cooked dishes for lunch or an early supper are also delicious. Meals are served at tables under a pergola next to the infinity pool filled with seawater, beyond which is the Aegean. Our room was simply and elegantly appointed with a balcony looking out over the sea. And - a very important consideration - the bed was so comfortable one almost didn’t want to leave it! I am very much looking forward to my next visit to Sifnos and to Irene’s wonderful Selana Suites.
