Quinta da Ventuzela

A fabulous paradise. Stayed for three nights in the Casa do Rio, a small cottage with plunge pool by the river Douro, with a nearby private jetty to pick up boats for a river cruise. The place is so spectacularly beautiful, with great views wherever you go. The only sound is of birdsong each day. All of the staff were really friendly and very efficient. The cottage was simple and comfortable, with a small landscaped garden, about 2km from the main buildings. The buildings were all beautifully restored with a well laid out museum and info centre about the history of the vinyard. Breakfasts were excellent, with freshly picked oranges and loquats, and a full choice of other items. The dining area had a huge view over the vinyard and river. We had two dinners there with their great wines and good food. We would love to go back to this place again.

An overall very enjoyable visit. The location is simply spectacular and all the employees were most engaging and professional. Maybe spend a little effort on giving the culinary team some training. The dinner choices were somewhat limited. And it was the only place in Portugal where we did not enjoy the Cod

Very good breakfast. Sprinklers at lunch area are a great addition during hot days. Pool has probably the best view I have ever seen, perfect spot to watch the sunset and take photos. There was a bottle of porto wine at the room which we drank looking at the clear sky full of stars We did wine tasting (don’t forget to book in advance as spots are limited even without covid restrictions) and it was surprisingly good with fair price. Service sometimes gave misleading information about certain things, but nothing major. Hospitality sector in Portugal is suffering with lack of manpower and Quinta do Ventozelo is no exception. Place hired interns during high season and they are putting a lot of effort to keep up with customer demands. One thing that could improve is the amount of wine served at the pool. It has quite some gap compared to what is served at lunch tables. Definitely a place to come back!

O Vicente recebeu-nos com um grande sorriso. A casa é magnificada, com imenso gosto e detalhes muito bonitos. O quarto tinha uma vista de cortar a respiração. Pequeno-almoço foi servido no jardim com vista para o Douro Aqui sentimo-nos em casa! Voltaremos
