Our tour of the main wine-producing areas of the Loire Valley continued with Stage 7: Saumur to Clisson (Day 9 in France). We were now based in Clisson on our first day here. We parked in the carpark at this hotel well before checking-in, using the entrance code for the automatic gates; that was provided when we had made our reservation. Parking here in the lower-town is otherwise very difficult; the carparking facility here is a major plus-point for this hotel. We had stayed here before in 2016, 2019 and 2022; so we know the hotel well. This is the best hotel in Clisson because of it’s location, comfort, quality and service. There is a lift to all floors, a small bar adjacent to both the restaurant and large terrace, area and also a pool. The beautiful view here, of the confluence of Le Sèvre Nantaise and La Moine, under the ‘Pont de Vallée’ bridge, is unequalled in Clisson, especially with the backdrop provided by Le Château de Clisson. We did not use many of the hotel’s other facilities, apart from the rooms, of course, and two good breakfasts here in the very smart restaurant. On this occasion we did not take dinner here, we usually do. With reservations already made for another visit in 2025, we are sure to weigh-up all the pros and cons of dining options, and then decide to dine here or not. We did have a lunchtime tapas meal where two of the tapas plates had not been very good; being just flavoured mashed potato balls; where the texture was just wrong. The tapas were certainly not very exciting, and did little to satisfy the taste buds. The flavour of cheese variety were slightly better than the fish flavoured variety. The other tapas plate was the best, being tempura tenderstem broccoli. After lunch we had sat a while on the sunny terrace by the river, and enjoyed a couple or three glasses of an excellent Muscadet. This was an great way to relax whilst soaking-up the sun’s warmth. The rooms were very good, sleep quality was excellent. The shower water did flood a significant area of the bathroom floor and totally soaked the bath mat. In my opinion two bath mats should be automatically provided along with fresh towels each day.

Lovely hotel. The staff were great, very friendly & helpful. Room was nice, with a view over the terrace to the river & the chateau. Lovely pool & terrace, plenty of room to relax with a glass or two. Lift to all floors. The food was great & the reception staff made sure we had a table, even on the really busy nights with bookings from outside the hotel (have the cote de bouef if you are feeling very hungry, amazing & carved at your table.!!) Gated car park just around the corner from the hotel. Clisson is a lovely quaint town with plenty of history, lots of narrow cobbled streets, little shops & plenty of places to eat & drink, and Les Halles market hall as amazing. Just a shame about the weather.....comme Angleterre!!!

This hotel is ideally located in the beautiful town of Clisson. The hotel & facilities are excellent, including private parking, spa, swimming pool and award winning restaurant. The rooms and beds are very comfortable. It is extremely quiet and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The views of the old Chateau and river are stunning! An idyllic getaway and we will return!

Villa Saint Antoine Hotel and Spa is a wonderful place to enjoy the French countryside. The rooms are spacious and clean. The restaurant and lounge are wonderful! The staff is so helpful and friendly. Highly recommend this hotel.

First time at this hotel and really enjoyed our one night stay. Great setting on the river with a great terrace that is overlooked by the impressive old chateau. Warm welcome from the reception staff and five minutes later we were in our room with a window view of the river. Room was spotless. Comfy bed, good shower and for a French hotel…big fluffy towels! Restaurant food was excellent as well. Breakfast was fine although let down by having no croissants available. Re parking… their car park is directly opposite the hotel but has pretty tight turning if you are in in a large car. All in all an unexpected but deserved five stars for our stay though.

We have been here before, pre pandemic, but the evening meal we have just had, was absolutely amazing. Menu limited, but jeez, what the chef produces is amazing. One of the finest meals we have experienced. Not the cheapest, but absolutely stunning, flavours ,cannot praise highly enough. Better than some Michelin starred restaurants we have visited. Outstanding.

We stay here annually as a stop-over on route from S of France to Cherbourg for ferry to Ireland. Always a very pleasant last night in France, a lovely location, very pleasant staff, very nice dinner in restaurant. A little pricey when all added up but what the heck, it is always our last night in France before returning home.

Villa Saint Antoine is a wonderful hotel in Clisson. The hotel is attractive, clean and the rooms are very nice. However what made the difference to me is the staff. From arrival to departure the staff was awesome. Gwendolyn was exceptionally helpful finding me transportation to Paris during a strike that left me with few options so that I was able to make my flight back to the US

This hotel is superbly located in a very historic city. The rooms are rather small but very comfortable and nicely decorated. You can walk the city center and enjoy the wonderful views from the hotel. Nice restaurant with a simple and well presented menu. Beautiful views from the dining room.

With good directions from the hotel we found our way easily and were pleased to find that the car park is of a good size. The hoteI is right in the middle of the village, between the two famous bridges, so is ideal. I booked a river view room and I must say that the description could possibly be challenged as the main view was of the terrace parasols and swimming pool, with just a tiny glimpse of the river over on the right. So if you book a river view room - make sure to tell them that you don’t want room 1! The check in was friendly and efficient and our room (apart from the disappointing view) was modern, clean and comfortable. A lovely sleep was followed by a very nice breakfast that included scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages and beans - not very French, but a really nice change. The breakfast room was overseen by a very pleasant lady welcoming guests and making sure that everything was replenished and in order. This is a very good hotel and Clisson is such a lovely place we would certainly come back if in the area.

Clisson is indeed a delightful town and the BW Villa Saint Antoine is well located to make the most of it. The hotel, for what it offers, is somewhat on the expensive side. The staff were friendly and one of the hotel's assets. Our allocated room, Number 17 was a superior room with a balcony and I paid handsomely for it (£225). Parking comes complimentary and breakfast was included in our rate. The room itself was compact and the bathroom even more so. The balcony was just adequate to have a small table and two chairs. The fact it was situated above the swimming pool was a minus with screaming children in the day and noisy adults in the evening. The dining terrace is also below the room's balcony and can be noisy on a warm evening. We didn't eat in the hotel but had dinner around the corner at 'Restaurant de la Vallee' which was excellent and a fabulous setting. Breakfast on the terrace the next morning was very pleasant with coffee out of a machine but drinkable, breads, cheeses, hams, croissants and cake plus a range of home made preserves. Yogurt was also available as was fruit that was somewhat processed. All in all, we enjoyed the visit to Clisson, dinner (not in the hotel) was excellent, the hotel was adequate if on the expensive side, but it was a pleasant overnight stay.

We stayed one night here, we were lucky to get a cancellation. We would have loved to stay longer as the hotel itself is lovely , the location amazing and restaurant fantastic. We called for cocktails on the terrace overlooking the beautiful sevre river and another day we had an amazing lunch also on the terrace with shaded areas provided as it was very hot. We stayed during a festival but it feels secluded and private. Rooms are perfect , tea & coffee facilities and the usual toiletries with more available. It’s a beautiful area of france & very accessible. Bathroom shower is modern and spacious. The reception staff are lovely & patient as unfortunately my French is limited. Merci beaucoup villa st antoine!

We were few days away in France and constantly heading north (to the ferry from Ouistreham back to Portsmouth). This was following a visit to our twin Rotary Club based in the French commune of Melle, in south west France, to help their Members celebrate their 50th anniversary of being chartered as a Rotary Club. We stayed here during our last visit to France in 2019 and enjoyed the superior quality offered here, especially after a series of lesser well-appointed hotels. Our stay, like the last time, was for two nights. Sadly our room was located on the side of the hotel, so we were unable (once again) to enjoy the wonderful views of the town with it’s picturesque narrow road bridge that spans ‘La Moine’ with its nearby weir. The river then becomes a tributary to ‘La Sèvre Nantaise’. Yes it is a lovely view but only if you pay extra for a premium room, and then you can also see Clisson Castle up on the hill. OK so it may be worth paying the extra! There was a lift to all floors, good wide corridors and sober décor and tasteful reduced lighting. Our room was stylish, clean and well appointed. The bed was big and looked (and was) comfortable. All the usual amenities. The TV (with remote) had only three English speaking channels and they were American. There was a safe, but we couldn’t work out how to set it and didn’t want to risk locking passports and other documents away and not be able to retrieve them. The bathroom was well equipped and looked a bit ‘trendy’ with its purple glass basin washbowl sat on a flat surface. The basin was a terrible design as the tap was fixed in a static position very near to the edge of the bowl. There was no mechanism for filling the basin with water: the object that look like a spring loaded plunger plug was entirely immovable. Washing hands was messy as water ran off your hands onto the flat surface. Cleaning your teeth was a nightmare as you then had to scoop water in you hands to wash away the detritus contaminated foam from the sides of the bowl, in the process getting foamy water on the surrounding flat surface. Form over function is what is was. The designer obviously never tested the deign. The glass edge was also chipped in two or three places. Most unsatisfactory. The shower was excellent but the seal at the bottom of the door allowed water onto the floor outside the shower. The public areas were pleasant with a pleasant smart bar / diming area. There was a really extensive well-appointed patio area giving views of the river, weir, bridge and castle. There is a spa and an outdoor pool but we didn’t take advantage of these. The staff at reception and the bar staff we encountered were kind, attentive, helpful, caring, pleasant and professional. After divesting ourselves of luggage and freshening-up we went to the bar. It was abut 15:30 and we decided that was close enough to18:00 wine time. When in Muscadet, drink Muscadet! The lady bartender was ready and able to recommend
