First thing I noticed was the excellent friendly service at the front counter. This service continued at breakfast the next morning, which was very nice - it was a menu-style breakfast where you order a breakfast you would like. Breakfast with salmon had a small supplement.
The room was mostly okay, although there were some stains on the bedsheet. Inclusion of earplugs was a nice touch as it is on the main road - I happen to like the city noise, but ended up using them to block out the noise of the fan (there is no air conditioning).
The bathroom had nice toiletries although we noticed that the cold tap ran hot for quite a while before it got cold.
Overall the stay was fine, but with lots of hotels available in Colchester it wouldn’t be my first pick to return.

A lovely hotel very close to the centre, we stayed for one night and it was extremely hot but we had a fan in the room which we kent on overnight. The breakfast menu is excellent and I enjoyed my eggs Benedict very much. Very friendly service throughout.

I had originally booked the Holiday Inn express but decided to stay more central and pleased that I did. The Hotel has a lovely boutique feel to it and although I booked the small single as on my own, the bed was really comfortable and the shower was amazing. Breakfast brought back memories of the old days, when staff take your order and it is all brought to your table…fresh. Excellent value and an easy walk to everything that Colchester has to offer. Easy walk from station too. It is very obvious that it is privately owned as the welcome was personal and friendly…Thanks Julie

All the staff were so friendly. It was my first visit but I was treated as if I’d been there several times. Room was very comfortable and a nice powerful shower. Breakfast was delicious and cooked to order. It’s only a short walk up the hill to the high street which has loads of pubs and eateries. I was very impressed with Colchester but the North Hill Hotel was the icing on the cake. See you again soon .

A surprising find..... Beautifully decorated, in a boutique style, spotlessly clean and outstanding service........ Someone knows what they are doing in the kitchen, too, the food is excellent and freshly cooked.....Recommended, highly.

Went for Sunday lunch only. Roast pork was stone-cold, as if from the fridge and not properly reheated. Roast beef was better. Yorkshire pudding was soft and not crisp, but other veg and gravy were acceptable. Shan't be returning there anytime soon. Certainly not for Sunday Roast. Very disappointed.

Excellent hotel with a 5 minute walk to shops and restaurants etc. Very friendly staff, wonderful breakfast, clean & quiet room. I would most definitely come back to this hotel, had a lovely midweek stay and was very happy and impressed. 10/10 👌🏻

A lovely hotel with welcoming friendly staff. Julie made us feel so welcome along with her team. They couldn’t have been more friendly and accommodating. A relaxing sophisticated bar and amazing food. A fantastic vegetarian menu of high class tasty food! The room was comfortable with all facilities and the breakfast was amazing. We will definitely stay there again.
