Hampton Inn Petersburg-Southpark Mall

You can tell that this hotel just underwent extensive renovations and the facelift looks great. We usually stay at the Hilton Garden Inn across the street each year for Virginia State's Homecoming, but this hotel had a better price point, so we decided to try it and had a great stay. The staff was excellent and the rooms look nice and fresh. Housekeeping seemed to take great pride in keeping the hotel looking like new as our room and the common areas throughout the hotel were clean and well maintained throughout our stay. Bed was comfy, internet was fast, room had lots of electrical outlets/internet ports. The shower pressure wasn't great, but OK. Walmart, Target, Sam's Club and Chic-fil-A are almost right next door and SouthPark Mall with Macy's and JC Penny are a stone's throw away. Breakfast included the typical offerings-oatmeal, cereals, boiled eggs and omelets, pork bacon or sausage and a waffle maker. Even though this hotel isn't new like the Delta and TownPlace Suites that just opened, it is well positioned to continue to compete it this market. I travel on business often and spend over 100 nights a year in hotels and would definitely stay here again and highly recommend.

Clean, comfortable, convenient location. Very friendly and helpful staff. Free breakfast was very good, with a good, varied selection. Great recommendations for places to dine. We’ve already reserved a room for our next stay in the area!

The construction going on here is so intense that they have to put up signs to lead you to the front entrance. Walls of the room are paper thin, no soap in the shower dispensers, and the breakfast is a disgrace. The only good part about this stay was the kind employees who kept apologizing under their stressful work conditions. It took at least 15 minutes to get our key card at the front desk when checking in because the equipment wasn’t working. It’s a crime that they are charging these rates for rooms under these conditions and placing their employees in this situation.

Everything was pretty good except the last day. We had to wait for server to bring out the potatoes and when he brought them out they were not steaming hot. Guest that was already sitting down had been there for about 8 minutes...we sat for 10 minutes!!!!!! He said that he did not know that he had to cook breakfast. The apple juice fountain needed refilling. He had one spoon for the potatoes....which was fine. But he had ONE set of tongs to get your egg omelet and the pork sausage which was clearly contaminating the food. Yuck and gross!!!

My husband I were in town. We love staying here when we come to visit our daughter in college and for business. The customer service from Kayla and Suzi was outstanding. Hotel is clean and comfortable. Great location for all your needs.

I visited here to see my son at nearby Ft. Gregg. This hotel was rated higher than the others on this app, and was more expensive. Since I wanted a good experience for a special occasion, I reserved. I have no major complaints, but there was nothing above average to merit the extra $50/ night. My room was newly renovated, and clean. It was plain and basic. The renovation eliminated clock radios. There was one small chair in a room with 2 beds. The only place for trash was a tiny can. The hallways had many little trash bags outside the door. The elevator lobby had a large pile of trash. The 2nd floor elevator lobby had a puddle from a leaking ice machine. The bathroom light flickered and strobed like an old neon sign. Nothing was dirty, but all the public areas needed sweeping. So, I am being a whiner, right? I don't think so. With a total cost of $220/night, I should have set my sights lower.

We arrived to a hotel that was undergoing renovations with plastic sheeting everywhere, hallways that were over 100 degrees b/c the AC was not working, no parking b/c of the renovation vehicles and supplies took up the entire back lot with no indication/signage of where you could park, a group of kids who were leaving that smelled of ********* and other patrons complaining that they were disturbing all the patrons by knocking on doors while smoking it in the hallways, ONE staff member dealing with the kids, the unhappy patrons, other patrons asking for plungers, checking in new patrons (like me) and also speaking with the 911 dispatcher and the police arriving to deal with the kids. While some of this didn't warrant advance notice, patrons should have been advised on-line about the status of the renovations, the lack of air conditioning and signage about where to park so that an informed decision could be made whether to stay at the hotel.

Great stay! Just stayed for a quick overnight on our way to SC from the Northeast. New refurbished room was fresh and clean. Most rooms should be finished from what I understand. We stayed on the 2nd floor. New modern look, completely updated. Beds, towels, new and comfy. Front desk staff very friendly. And Sue who was the breakfast host was sweet and friendly! She keeps the breakfast area sparkling. The waffle machine and cereal always a hit with the kids! Chick-fil-A right around the corner if you need some fast food chow.

Rooms were clean. Staff nice at check in and informing us with renovation times for noise. Breakfast typical. Nice location for on/off rte 95. Parking was abundant. Several good eating establishments around.
