Laguna Lodge Full Board

We came as part of a tour group ( Mercury holidays) and this was the most interesting location of our tour. On arrival we got a drink whilst we sorted out what rooms we all had. The rooms are clean but basic. Loved the rocking chairs outside on the veranda. The pool was lovely, and lovely grounds to explore. Although I walked to the beach we didn’t stop there but it looked lovey. There was a sloth on one of the trees sleeping. There was a cute little bar, and a pool bar . The restaurant was well organised and food was very good. We had lunch , dinner and breakfast there all was lovely.

We came for our honeymoon in January (a little delayed in this review)! It was our first stop in Costa Rica and what a welcome to the most amazing country it was. Incredible location, lovely staff, eco friendly and facilities/food was great. Highly recommend the kayak trip, we saw some incredible things on our outing. The boats to and from the hotel were great! Thank you for a memorable stay!

We got picked up spot on time at 5.50 am from the Barcelo hotel in San Jose (15th July). Juan Miguel introduced himself to us and was our guide for the next 2 days. He was absolutely brilliant. He took care of our group to the smallest details, informed us what our room number would be and the key on the door, so no check in. The exciting thing is the road stops well away from the hotel, so a beautiful one-hour boat ride is needed to reach the hotel. The hotel is situated in an idyllic place between the canal and the Caribbean Sea. The gardens are magnificent, full of tropical flowers and trees. Lots of birds come and visit, as well as a gorgeous iguana, frogs... The rooms are very well appointed but very hot (no air con). The restaurant is open to the canal, bringing a bit of air. During our 2 nights stay we went to the village by boat, visited the rain forest from the canal, had a walk with a guide showing us what was around us and finally a tour of the garden. Juan Miguel was so knowledgeable about the fauna and flora. It was such a pleasure to discover Costa Rica nature in simple terms. The staff at the hotel was extremely friendly. Juan Miguel took us back to a place where we had breakfast on the way up. This time it was lunch. He handed us over to the driver taking us to La Fortuna, Arenal. We really enjoyed our short stay in this hotel.

Set between the canal and the ocean, this hotel is only accessible by boat. It is also in the rain forest so humidity is very high. The rooms are in blocks around very nice gardens with wildlife all around. There are a couple of pools set in the gardens with towels provided. It is a very short walk to the beach but do not go into the sea and there is the chance of crocodiles and sting rays, we were advised to avoid the sea but to enjoy the beach. The rooms are clean and comfortable and there is mosquito netting up at all the windows. The rooms are reasonably basic, but we are in the rain forest - so don't expect air conditioning in the rooms. There is a big fan. The restaurant was very good and all our meals were a good variety. Drinks are a little expensive, but that is the case in most of Costa Rica. The tours from the hotel are amazing. The staff were very friendly and welcoming - we would recommend this hotel.

We enjoyed our stay at Laguna Lodge, the grounds were beautiful and the gorgeous beach was just a stone's throw away. The room was quite basic, it was very hot and we struggled a bit with just a fan, however the pools, bars and restaurant were very good. The bars served the best Pina Coladas we've ever had! Be prepared for some geckos in your room (they are harmless and they'll help keep the mozzie numbers down!) and possibly a creepy crawly or two. Take a walk around the grounds after dark with a torch (don't forget to top up your mozzie repellent before you do!), you will find loads of toads by the pool, hear frogs in the trees, and if you walk through the butterfly garden you might spot a red eyed tree frog! Being in the rainforest, it is very loud during the night, I would recommend bringing ear plugs if you're a light sleeper. I cannot begin to explain how fantastic the boat tours are, I got up for the 5.30am tour and also the 8.30am tour and had what I would consider to be one of the best days of my life! The amount of birds and animals we saw was unreal, it was such a magical experience. Our boat driver (I can't remember his real name, I want to say Jacan but we all called him Eagle Eyes!) was brilliant, he spotted so much wildlife and was so lovely. Our tour guide during our stay at Laguna Lodge was Sebastian, he was so helpful and was such a great guy!

Tortuguero is a must on a trip to Costa Rica. The place is alive with animal sounds, so interesting and beautiful to navigate through the waterways, and lots of wildlife. Laguna Lodge is very comfortable, in the middle of the forest and right next to the sea. Lots of birds! The food was amazing, abundant and tasty. Friendly and good service. Clean and comfortable rooms. Fernando, our guide for some of the excursions, is excellent - so knowledgeable and so much respect for nature.
