We stayed at Cellars-Hohenort for 3 nights while in Cape Town for the Two Oceans. The hotel is absolutely gorgeous—lush gardens, beautifully kept grounds, elegant rooms, and a tranquil, luxurious atmosphere. The setting was perfect, and overall service was warm and professional throughout our stay. However, our final morning left a sour taste. Checkout is at 10am, but when I returned to the room at 9:30am after breakfast to pack and freshen up, I found a cleaner already inside, the door wide open, and all my belongings still in the room. She was actively cleaning around my things, and I was so taken aback I didn’t know how to respond. She casually asked if it was okay for her to continue—I was confused, shrugged, and honestly just unsure if this was normal practice at a hotel of this standard. A few minutes later, she came out of the bathroom (still in the middle of cleaning), and only then suggested that she could leave if I wanted her to. I agreed that yes, I did want her to leave, and she left—with the toilet brush still in the toilet and all her cleaning material around the bathroom and room. For a hotel of this calibre, this level of disregard for guest privacy and the basic courtesy of waiting until checkout time is completely unacceptable. Such a disappointing and awkward end to what was otherwise a lovely stay.
