970 Lonely Bay Lodge recensioner

We stayed in the separate Barn run by 970. A magical property which looks and feels like a Tuscan villa. For two couples it has masses of space, inside and out, and has a large and well equipped kitchen. The light breakfasts are well prepared by Anne who is a well informed and charming host. Highly recommended.

Stayed here with my family on a trip from USA to New Zealand. The Lonely Bay Lodge is one of a kind! The location is spectacular, just a few minutes walk from the beach with a great view from the Estuary suite (our room). The beds are comfortable, the patio is amazing. Breakfast is fantastic, catered by Anne (the lodge manager). There is a beautiful country garden that leads to a walk to either the amazing Shakespeare cliffs or down to Cooks Beach. The property is beautifully maintained, the lodge manager is fastidious and eager to help. It was great to hang out and get to know the other guests over breakfast. Would definitely come again and recommend to friends.

We stayed here 2 nights and wished it could have been more. The room was very good and we had a great nights sleep. Breakfast was very good with muesli, fruit plus a cooked breakfast. From the hotel we walked to Lonely Bay beach (about 15mins) where we saw a breeding pair of Dotterels and their chicks, being watched over by a lady volunteer. We also walked up to Shakespeare lookout where you get great views across the sea.

Beautiful Lodge just minutes from Cooks Beach. Accommodation is very comfortable, beautiful touches throughout the house, and Anne was a wonderful host. Our room was amazing with huge outdoor deck lighting in king towards beach. Each morning Anne prepared a delicious breakfast - fruit salad, yoghurt, granola, croissants, and cooked breakfast if needed. Anne also provided great advice on the area, and in fact the whole north island. Highly recommend.

Anne provides a luxurious welcome to this beautiful space. Lovely private rooms with views of the bay, quiet garden, easy access to trails to Cooks Bay, Shakespeare Reserve, ferry to Whitianga. Fantastic breakfast, including gluten-free options. Thank you, Anne!

Wonderful location to discover the region from. Plenty of parking. Most of all, Anne is an incredibly warm and attentive host. We got the best recommendations for visits, food, restaurants, even history and much more about NZ. The breakfast is first class. Anne, you made our stay just great!

This beautiful house, just minutes from the stunning Cooks beach is perfect. Anne, the manager, is really helpful and her recommendations for restaurants were spot on. Lovely breakfasts , cooked to order. A lovely relaxing place to stay and enjoy the area

It was a great way for us to end our trip. The Lonely Bay Lodge offers all the comfort and space to relax. The hostess, Anne, is very attentive and caring and made our stay an absolute success. The stay was very good and worth repeating, certainly because of our hostess.

Beautiful place to stay with Cooks beach a 5 minute walk from the garden. Anne our host was so very helpful with her suggestions of where to eat and information on the local area. Breakfast was fresh and really tasty. All rooms have their own private outdoor space and it whole place was spotlessly clean. Don’t typically do many reviews but this place was fantastic and would highly recommend as a stopover on the Coromandel peninsula. Will be back!!

We stayed at 970 Lonely bay lodge for two nights on our New Zealand roadtrip. We got the warmest welcome from the Manager Anne, already when we parked our car outside the hotel. She showed us around in the house and told us everything we needed to know. It felt like visiting a friends house. We stayed in the Atrium suite and had a nice bedroom with a very comfortable bed, a spacious bathroom, a big living room and a terrace at our own disposal. Outside was a wonderful garden, from which it took only 5-10 minutes to go down to the 1 km long Cooks beach. In the morning Anne served us the most delicious breakfast with yoghurt, homemade granola and muesli, fruitsalad, newly baked croissants, eggs cooked to your preference, etc. We were sitting at the big kitchen table together with other guests. Anne also helped out with very good suggestions on where to go, what to do, where to dine, and general information about the area. She also had input on our next stop of our roadtrip. We want to give our warmest recommendations to stay at this lodge. We would love to come back.

My husband and I stayed at 970 Lonely Bay Lodge for 4 nights in October 2024. The innkeeper, Anne, greeted us warmly, offering suggestions for dinner and activities. A former tour guide, Anne was extremely knowledgeable about the area, and this enhanced our enjoyment of Coromandel. Our room, the Shakespeare Suite, was well appointed, spacious and comfortable. It was immaculately clean, had large windows and outdoor space. Anne’s breakfasts were delicious and fresh. The common space allowed for sitting and reading inside and out doors and contributed to our relaxation. A short walk to Cooks Beach and to some other walking trails make this an ideal location for a true getaway.

Fabulous luxury lodge right by the beautiful Cook’s Beach, just a few minutes walk away. This is such a great place to chill and we were well looked after by our host Anne who is probably one of the best tour guides in NZ. Loved catching the nearby ferry to Whitingia where the Marine Bay Eatery served up a great menu and then Kaizen in Cooks bay village offered some of the tastiest fusion food in NZ. Super base and would come back!

Beautiful house and spacious light airy room. Lovely welcome and extremely hospitable and knowledgeable host Anne. Peaceful setting. Perfect getaway, short walk to magnificent clean, unspoiled beach and trails. Would highly recommend.

970 Lonely Bay is in a lovely spot with a nice garden and a short walk to a beautiful beach. Anne the manager is a great host and was very welcoming and informative about things to do and places to eat. The lodge was nicely furnished and one of the cleanest places we stayed whilst in New Zealand. Only reason for giving 4 stars not 5 is because we had the Atrium suite, and our travel agent had not explained to us that this was on the ground floor and adjacent to public rooms and therefore had the possibility to be less private. As it was, there were few other guests so we had a good experience. And thank you for the Auckland suggestions Anne, they were great!
