Liss Ard Estate

The Liss Ard Estate and grounds were a beautiful and relaxing home base for exploring the southwest of Ireland. We were in a King bed in the main Manor part of the hotel. The staff were all extremely helpful, from the bellman who parked our vehicle for us and brought our bags up at arrival, to the front desk who helped me book a table at a place only taking reservations over the phone, to the lovely staff in the restaurant and bar. Wandering the property, you could also see the care taken to maintain the gardens and landscaping (especially around the lakehouse!). There are trails that take you down to the lake, to the Sky Garden, and the wellness huts (some basic weights and cardio machines). We loved it!!

The whole experience was outstanding, the hotel grounds, staff, facilities, and setting. I would highly recommend !

We loved staying at Liss Ard Estate. The suite was wonderful and catering was extraordinary. We booked so we could experience the James Turrell Sky Garden but we adored everything about our visit and wished we could have stayed longer!

We stayed in Liss Ard Estate to celebrate a significant birthday. Our entire experience from arrival to departure was amazing! Charlotte and Irene on reception team are super welcoming, helpful and the very kind birthday wishes were immediate. Our room and bathroom were both splendid and luxurious and the surprise gifts requested by family members were all beautifully displayed in the room. We were joined by friends (a party of five) for dinner and the attention to detail and thoughtfulness of restaurant manager Conor and his team (Vanessa & Luis) were exceptional and so much appreciated. The dinner was simply superb with each of our party praising the outstanding quality of their chosen dish. Compliments to the Chef. After dinner drinks from the bar were a delight as was Eddie, the super efficient and super pleasant barman. We enjoyed some tunes on the beautiful baby grand piano available to guests and which one of our party was able to play. Delightful! Breakfast was wonderful as was the most pleasant, happy smiling waiter Gabor. Before leaving, we visited the grounds, sky garden and took a little trip on the boat on the lake. The sauna and gym overlooking the lake are stunning. Liss Ard Estate is a magical place with exceptional staff. We will be back but they're will be more of us next time. Incredible property and grounds with the potential to be a spectacular destination- but let down by the absence of any identifiable management presence or structure and an undertrained staff. Think we received a total of 11 emails, 5 text messages and 3 phone calls- prior to arrival - most of which were to confirm the already confirmed! Staff are super nice, but hopelessly untrained. There was no sign of any manager throughout the stay. There seems to be no plan or structure- with it being haphazard. Rooms in main house and adjoining buildings are super - very well appointed - but lacking in five star standards - no dressing gowns / tv worked intermittently/ hot water went awol / no drinks bar. Food was superb - but a little repetitive. Disappointing absence of locally sourced / promoted offerings. It’s far from cheap and there is plenty of better competition in Ireland at these prices. Being so remote it needs to up its game in order for people to make the journey. It has the potential to be something really special - but it’s currently falling short.

Stayed for two nights in the main house. Lovely large and well appointed room located up a set of stairs. Although the hotel was full, it was very relaxed and quiet. Staff were warm, friendly and welcoming. The main house is stately and formal, but in a relaxed style. Lovely bar room adjacent to a lounge with a wide selection of books and classic albums and a turntable. A second lounge was available so plenty of space to spread out. The grounds were lovely - we were there on a wet and cloudy day and made use of the complimentary golf carts available to explore the estate. The sky garden is truly remarkable and we wish the skies were clearer during our stay. One of the highlights was the bar and the bar staff - high quality cocktails made by staff who were happy to discuss the finer points of cocktails. If we had a criticism it would be about the arrangements for breakfast. The charges for continental and cooked weren't as clear as they could be - the continental option was very limited and not really worth the cost, while the cooked options were delicious. Drinks (coffee, juices etc) weren't cheap. This jarred with the test of the hotel offering and seems and area where some improvement could be made.
